Has anyone with a 2 XL experienced crackling sound at higher volumes? Happens on all songs and system notifications I play.

Speakers don't crackle here although sound at highest level is not very pleasant. Mid to low level sound is nice.

Yeah I think there's something physically wrong with the lower speaker. It's like a crackle/vibration sound.

Sounds like it might just be your unit. Mine doesn't do this. That stinks..

I have that on my lower speaker. Seems to go away at lower volumes. Not sure if I should send it back or not. Probably will because now would be the time to do it to be sure you get a brand new replacement.

After further playing with it. It only seems to be on something's, certain videos. It did not do it on some of the music I played at full volume. I do get a pretty annoying pop everytime I send a text message from the messages app.

The noise isnt just at the top of the range. I have to go about 1/4 down for the sound to disappear. The fact is a $1k phone should not have this distortion at all regardless of what level. I have cranked up my Note 8 and it doesn't have this issue. Same thing with an iPhone.

Dude, that's not the point. Even notifications like ringtones and text messaging have the distortion. So you want to lower those notifications too because the speaker is sensitive? No. The speaker should be able to handle the selected volume. The difference is that with a much smaller speaker like this, you often NEED to set it to the highest. This isn't just about music. Listen the device is nice but I'm not going to make excuses for Google to have made a lot of mistakes with this phone.

I def. don't keep mine on max -- so I guess I don't hear the issue with notifications. It is way too loud cranked up all the way.

There's a thread on Reddit, and some are saying even the replacements are doing still making the distortion noise. I'm curious if it's a software issue instead instead of something physically wrong with the device.

Aww crap.

Ya so I'm not sure if I should call for a replacement or not.

Some people have also claimed that the blue shift is much less pronounced on some replacement units. So at least there's the possibility of that if you have one that has the more pronounced blue shift.

Your speakers should not crackle with the volume all the way up. Get a warranty exchange.

If you have an issue, swap it out.

So you're from Australia? Because if your neighbor had it already and you're in the US (you said you work for the NSA) you know it wasn't available until today right? So highly unlikely you saw anything. Just saying.
Two possibilities actually. Neighbor works for Apple Engineering (see employee sacked because daughter posted videos of the test device employee had), or neighbor has Chinese clone.
