Audio line out from USB C

Loving my Nexus 5X. Wondering whether there was a way to bypass the built-in amp and have audio output directly from the USB C port, to plug into a portable headphone amp?

Re: Audio line out from USB C

USB is not an audio level device like a soundcard. I don't think it'll do what you want.

Re: Audio line out from USB C

I'm sure the technology exists to allow this, but I SERIOUSLY doubt they built it into the 5x.

Re: Audio line out from USB C

That's not "line" level audio.

Don't know what you are referring to: the original poster's question was if one can use the USB out to send music to an external headphone amplifier. That is exaclty what I have given an answer to. The specific DAC/Headphone amp I use is the Oppo HA-2, which is connected to my Galaxy Note Pro via its usb port with what is called an "on-the-go" cable.

The Oppo HA-2 has two outputs, one for headphones, and one "line out" (it is specifically labelled "Line Out") to plug directly into car sound systems or stereo systems with a standard audio 3.5mm jack. This is a much stronger (louder) signal than that coming out of the DAC's headphone socket.

That's not what was asked but I don't wish to quibble about it. Have a Merry Christmas.

It is exactly what was asked. Quoting the original post:
"Wondering whether there was a way to bypass the built-in amp and have audio output directly from the USB C port, to plug into a portable headphone amp".

And that is what I gave: using an "on-the-go" cable from USB port to a DAC/Headphone amp

You're absolutely correct. Have a Happy New Year.
