Audio very staticy (loud scratchy noise) at times

At least three times recently I have had to reboot my phone to stop Pandora audio from being extremely staticky. Restarting Pandora instead of rebooting the phone does not fix the problem. This began after the last over the air update and I'm not really sure what the cause is. I've had Android phones for more than four years and have never had this problem with Pandora before. Is anyone else with an S 7 having trouble with extreme amounts of static in the audio in either the speaker or headphones when playing Pandora?

I haven't switched Audio Apps to see if all apps are doing the same thing at the same time such as playing YouTube or any other music app so I can't say whether or not all audio is staticy when this problem occurs with Pandora

EDIT: Problem is not confined to Pandora.

Does it do it with any other apps? I personally can't stand Pandora so my biased opinion wants to blame their app.

I don't yet know. If Pandora acts up again I will immediately switch to some other app and see if audio is staticy.

The problem is NOT Pandora. It does the same thing if I switch to other apps such as Netflix. Something is intermittently causing the phone to become unlistenable. It happened even after I rebooted. Does it on 4G. Does it with the BT radio OFF. It just started again! This began after the last OTA update, but I don't know if thats the issue. I hope I don't have to send this in for repair, especially since it is intermittent.

This isn't a speaker issue, as the same sound is heard on earphones.

I just got back from Sprint 30 minutes ago to get a replacement. Sprint guy said it's a known defect. Return for a new one ASAP.

I just found this: https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS7/comments/4aefry/galaxy_s7_audio_crackle_problem/

seems others are having issues similar to mine, such as a reboot fixes it for a while. seems to be software. but thanks for the comment about sprint replacing phones for static sound.

I wiped the system cache (note: I THOUGHT I had wiped system cache in the last week or two, but realized I hadn't hit "YES" to confirm (at the upper left of the android menu screen) so after 2 pathetic attempts to wipe the cache today, I finally got it right on the third try.

I also uninstalled Call Recorder (not to be confused with ACR, but similar in nature).

I have had Pandora running on both speaker and headphones for at least an hour and a half and it is working. However I've had other periods of time where it works for various lengths of time before the static or scratchy noise makes it useless for music listening

UPDATE: No problems with audio for the last few days and I've had Pandora running for hours on end, numerous times. Knock on wood.
My previous post explains what remedies I'd done to rectify this. I'll report back if the noise returns.

Well, here I am to report the static sound is back with music apps such as Pandora, Amazon Music. It starts happening after some period of time after opening Pandora. I've rebooted the phone a couple times and it's still doing it. (I no longer use Call Recorder. I now have ACR for recording calls). Any one else having a loud static when listening to an app with audio. I haven't bothered to try earphones or BT, as this just started today and I've not done any investigation into all the scenarios in which it occurs.

I'm cautiously optimistic (accent on cautiously) that removing ACR from the phone stopped the intermittent static when playing music. What is weird is that I use my phone all the time for Pandora and ACR has been installed for weeks. Crazy. And that leads me to think that removing it isn't the fix, but I'll report back in a few days.

I played Pandora for about a 1/2 hour or more, a couple of times, and so far, still no return of the static sound. I'm more optimistic that the removal of ACR did the trick. It's no fun owning a $700 phone that one can't listen to music with, if the audio is ruined by loud crackling "static"!
