what is your concern with McAfee?
He is a bit of a whack job (McAfee, not the person you responded to). Otherwise, I've never had issues with McAfee. Full disclosure: I use MS Defender and Malwarebytes on my personal devices for AV/Malware protection and Private Internet Access (PIA) for VPN. However, I am thinking about switching to Malwarebytes VPN service.

I've never used antivirus on any form of Linux, and that includes Android. I only use inbuilt Windows Defender on Windows 11 since it is good enough and doesn't slow down my PC. I've run some type of Linux since 2007 and avoid dodgy sites, thus not needing software that slows down my devices or uses up the battery.

I use NordVPN for PC and Android.

well, he WAS a bit of a whack job until a few years ago (RIP). and he hadn't been involved in the company he founded for years prior.

I looked into NordVPN, but their prices are a bit steep. PIA VPN is not that expensive and it also pretty good with battery life. The only reason I am thinking about switching to Malwarebytes VPN is consolidate to just two AV/Malware/VPN services. Also, Malwarebytes doesn't like PIA. It keeps blocking PIA IP addresses, even though I have reported them as legit.

Uses McAfee. I don't trust McAfee.
I don't trust any of them especially considering that Android is far less likely to get an actual virus. They just try to scare you into using and hopefully paying them for their "services", if you can even call something that does nothing a service.

I don't buy into VPNs much either. Everyone of them I've ever had, I was able to do a simple Google search and get local results even when it says I'm connected on the other side of the planet. Something not quite right about getting McDonalds results when you're connected in India...?

While John McAfee was indeed a nutjob, my biggest issues with McAfee software (intra- and post-John) was that it was always a huge resource hog, glitchy and sometimes worse than than the malware it purported to protect you from. The company was also guilty of some questionable business practices from time-to-time. I tried McAfee numerous times on a great many office and personal computers over many years (heck, for a long time it came on many, if not most, new PC's with a 3 month trial) and it always ended up being one of the worst choices. While I use the free Windows Defender on PC these days (IMHO, it is all that 99% of users really need), I also got decent performance, protection and nifty features "back in the day" from Bitdefender and Kaspersky on PC.

I don't use antivirus/antimalware software on Android devices as I think it is not really necessary so long as you don't download software or files from sketchy sites and keep up with updates.

I do use Surfshark VPN for PC's and my phone and I love it. It is reasonably priced, it has lots of extra features and it does not impact performance as much as many of its competitors.

While it is possible that McAfee may be doing things better these days (I don't keep up with that stuff like I used to), their less-than-steller history would lead me to give any of their software a big pass.

McAfee is owned by Trellix now. They bought them in 2021. If Microsoft offered Azure VPN as a non-enterprise option, I think I would try that.

This has been on the S24 for a while. I have it on my Tab S9, which is still on the June update. I think this came with Android 14/OneUI 6.x.

P.S. Yup, it came with Android 14/OneUI 6.

You are correct been out for a year but it's buried in settings so most forget about it .

Another thing to consider I think McAfee job here is to scan apps for malware

Most of these you can set individually but it's nice to have it all in one place

This is my post from last year but was limited

For some reason, I turned it on, on my Tab S9, then I guess I forgot about it and never turned it on for my S24 Ultra.

After doing a bit of research, I may dump MalwareBytes and just keep Microsoft Defender and PIA.

P.S. After doing a little more research. It seems MS Defender for Android also has a VPN if you are a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscriber. Now I am curious. There seems to be a monthly data cap though. Hmmm...
