Auto brightness or manual - what do you use and why?

Re: Auto brightness or manual

The auto brightness works great for daylight situations (gets bright enough to see clearly) but it's terrible for indoors in dark rooms. It's way too dark for me. I've tried everything. 50% with auto on, 70% with auto on, 100% with auto on, etc. No matter what I do, the screen stays way too dark when I'm in a dark room. It doesn't seem to matter what baseline brightness I set. With auto on, it goes way lower than the baseline I select. Almost like it completely ignores it. I have to uncheck it and manually put it at 50%. It's the one thing about this phone I hate. I also tried some third party apps, but they don't seem to work any better or, are too complicated to use. I just want something that works.

Lux works great. You can pre set the phone to different level of brightness depending on the environment that you are in. It will read the light level of your current environment, and then you can adjust to the level of brightness you would like your phone to auto adjust to in that level of ambient light.

It's not very complicated to use if you take a few minutes to read the tutorial.

I have Lux myself, but I'm currently just using the auto brightness as that seems fine in most situations.

50 % manual. I dislike the auto it's always changing the screen plus very draining to the battery. When I am outside in the sunlight I set to auto and it works perfectly.

I just leave mine on at full 100% most of the time. I usually wear sunglasses at work, and work outside, so I need to be able to see it right away. As long as I leave my house with a full battery, it usually lasts me the day no problem.

Sorry, are you all saying that you can set a percentage AND to auto and somehow that percentage you set is considered in the auto adjustment? That's confusing...

Auto was far too dark in low light situations to the point I could barely read the screen so I put it on manual and 60%. That works just fine for me.

I've been using Lux for a while now and I have to say, it's powerful and very customizable. I love the profile ability. I would recommend this app to anyone looking for brightness control.

I really hate the auto brightness on this phone. It's never set right. The M8 I had was twice as good at changing the brightness super fast, and did so dead on every time. One of the few things that I dislike.

Yes.

If you set it to Auto, but to 100% beforehand, the screen 'Auto' brightness you'll get in normal lighting will be higher than if you'd originally set it to 0%, or somewhere in between.

It makes sense. If auto is too dark indoors, or too bright outside, then setting this first means that auto isn't just a flat setting for all. Personally, 0% and auto is fine for me.
