It seems like past four hours of using my G2, it seems like the auto brightness doesn't work at all. It seems like locked in to the brightest. Whether I was out door or indoor, the brightness doesn't change.

Any inputs from other owners???

You sure you didn't accidentally uncheck auto-brightness? It's easy to do, especially on the home screen widget.

I came from nexus one.. thank you for your input but yes I surely know it is set as auto

My apologies, just took a quick peek at the post count.

I've seen one report of a screen that didn't get brighter, but no problems on mine.

i think i have to go exchange it tomorrow.
two problems with display
1. auto brightness doesn't work
2. with minimal brightness setting, screen flickers...

sigh..

Auto brightness is a battery killer anyway.
Use the Android Power control bar and manually adjust it instead of using
the processor constantly by being set on Auto.

So does auto brightness cause a noticible battery drain? I've always just used the power control widget anyways.

I saw no difference in mine but why do I really care? The hinge is broken, lol. Anyways I hope this doesn't happen to my other one...

Same for me... screen doesn't respond to ambient light. I have noticed that the keyboard backlight *does* adjust in response to the sensor (located at the upper left corner, kindly pointed out to me by George at Skinomi when I wondered why there was a cutout in their carbon-fiber skin there)... but it does so even when the brightness is set to a fixed level.

On mine, the Automatic sensor appears to set the brightness correctly when the screen comes on, and then increases the brightness if the light level increases, but does not decrease the brightness if the light level decreases.

As far as the hinge "issue" goes, mine has magnets the hold the screen in place when it's all the way open or closed (a paperclip will stick to the back of my screen.) If I hold one half of the phone and shake it, it will fall into the half-open position, but short of that, the screen stays where it belongs.
