Android Central Question

Hi samsung gallery keeps adding tags on my pictures, they come in as autotags. How can I disable them? There is no option in settings.

Hi Mustang,

I've created the account (obvious).

It's on all pictures, it tries to add a tag to something it is relevant to.
For Example, took a picture of my cat, auto tag is cats:

Here is a screenshot of my settings:

I have a Galaxy S9+

Let me know if you need any more info, I've looked everywhere and cannot find an answer.

Really appreciate your help!

Hi Welcome!
Thank you for screenshot , see if I can help you, try to toggle off "go to websites" and see if that fixes it ?

I just found something else in your first picture details on the upper right corner tap edit and next to tag you can delete it , but this has to be done individually :(

Edit: also go into the camera app tap cog wheel which is settings turn of location tag there .

Well I had to go look for myself. I first went to Google Photos because that's where I view my pics. Then I went to Samsung's Gallery app. All of my photos, even downloaded ones have these auto tags. At first I thought it might be part of the Google thing I opted into where it tried to identify people, well and pets, in photos but instead of names it just says, dogs, or describes something else about the scene, even if it's wrong.

I found these articles...

It says to turn this off...

This video might help...

Hi Mustang,

Thanks again for replying... I've had those off as well. I've noticed the gallery app seems to be doing it after I take the picture.

Took this picture before driving home and it had no tags, after I got home they were added.

Hi VidJunky

If you look at the screenshots posted of my setting above, image analysis is not there.

After looking around I found out if you click on Samsung Cloud
This screen pops up:

Kinda concerned that Samsung keeps analyzing images without permission.

Any other ideas? Seems like I will have to switch to Google Images...

Thanks again for your input!

I haven't looked to see what my settings are in this regard, mostly because I just don't care, but it is interesting that yours is off and it is still doing it. What we can say we know is, it is for sure a Samsung thing, there appears to be an option for controlling it but it appears to be ignoring the preference for that setting. I wonder what would happen or what it would be like if that option was enabled? Would it look closer at the pics or what? I suppose another question would be why is it analyzing the pics? I mean, yes, it is supposed to help the user but they must be getting something out of it as well. I once read a article asking if captcha might be humans checking AI's ability to identify images. Anyway you speak of switching to Google Images, why because you think they aren't doing this? In short they are probably doing it to higher level, they just aren't giving you these little auto tags.

Remember if the service is free you are not the customer you are the product.

This article gives more detail about what they collect if you really want to know... https://www.paperlessmovement.com/blog/google-photos-are-your-images-safe/

Well, hello. I accidentally found on my galaxy S8 - I think I went in through the 'files' & was able to see the categorized photos & was kinda freaked out, how creepy!!! HOW do they know what is what?? Is it a real human doing that somehow? With our 'permissions'? The only thing that was wrong was my sunrise on a flat snowy field was tagged 'water' -
NOW I have a note 10 and I want to find that again! Hahahaaa- I have been looking in all options and though there are still the auto tags on the pics, I can't find the actual folders as such.
I was debating trying to turn that feature off, so this was helpful after all, but still, I wish I could figure that out lol.

The Gallery app in my Note 10 is auto-tagging my photos. I use Gallery instead of Google photos because I don't want to share my photos with Google. The tags are mostly wrong and/or senseless and I don't want them. I would like to disable auto-tagging and delete all the tags that were added. There is no "Tag Buddy" setting in the app (Version 11.1.00.53), but I did find a pre-loaded app called "Tags", which I suspect is responsible. I can delete its data and "force stop" it, but the tags remain and the app seems to restart itself. I would be grateful for any way to deactivate it.

This has been driving me nuts for quite a while now. Samsung Galaxy S8. Think I just found it!

Went into Gallery, Gallery Settings, Cloud Sync (which I don't use, was off to begin with).
I had to sign into my Samsung account, which I had to jump thru hoops to do, forgot pswd, blah, blah. Clicked on the Analyze Images, to turn it off (was red/on). No more auto tag! Hope it stays.

NOPE, short lived, adding autotag again. How intrusive and annoying...

Hi, this is indeed creepy. how can they get away with it? It must be in the small print.

When i created secure folder and moved my images to it all auto taga wera deleted. Secure folder is easy enough to access once you set it up.

I hope it stays deleted.
