Auto-rotate not working properly since the last update!?

Also chiming in with a similar issue. I've got a stock Pixel 2, no unlocked bootloader or anything else. Not a Verizon model, purchased from Google.

About a week ago I noticed that autorotate wasn't working anymore. Played around for a while and couldn't find a solution. Downloaded a sensor test app -- no signal from my accelerometer, orientation detection sensor or the gyroscope. Tried safemode, tried rebooting.

Is there any way to tell if this is hardware failure vs the issue from last fall where an update broke sensors?

It's pretty well known on the Google support threads I follow that this is a software partition issue. But Google doesn't seem interested in helping those of us out that have the issue.

You can check this with the sensor check app by restarting your phone then checking the sensors. Most of them function for a couple minutes before failing. However when I reset my phone now, the only sensors that work for a few minutes are the proximity, light sensor and barometer. The others don't work now even after resetting the phone.

Factory resetting my phone to get sensors working for a few minutes sounds pretty ****ty. So, like, am I supposed to get a new phone or something? This is really putting a damper on apps that require those sensors like Google Maps.

Factory resetting does not fix it. In my post I said resetting but I meant "restarting". Turning it off then back on and running the sensor check app.

So weird. So the sensors work for about a second after I restart my phone and then open the sensor check app. The accelerometer will get one reading and then just keep reporting that reading to the app until I close the app and reopen it, at which point it just gets no signal at all. Now I'm trying to figure out if this is something with a fix on the horizon or I'm stuck buying a new phone.

Google is radio silent to the bunch of us with this issue so onto another brand of phone it is, at least for me.

It's acting like the issue I continue to have with my ringer volume automatically setting itself to a low nearly inaudible level and the volume rocker on the phone does nothing to change the audible volume higher even tho the slider shows max volume. With both issues, restarting the phone temporarily cures the issue. The volume issue is particularly annoying because I end up missing calls and texts because of the low volume issue. Only a minor inconvenience with the auto rotate suddenly not working.
I am having a similar issue with my 4XL. But the volume says it is on max and yet phone calls are not ringing.

It has something to do with a bad partition according to the support threads, but no suggestions on a fix unless your're rooted and bootloader unlocked which I'm not saavy enough for and don't want to screw things up further for, especially now when no one's really available to deal with these issue. Google even ridiculously marked it as "fixed" on one thread, but those of us on the support threads continue to have broke sensors. Disappointing. My phone works OK for calls and emails and for my work-related stuff, so I can get by, but lots of features simply not working without sensors working.

Yeah , I'm just really surprised with that :(

My Pixel 3XL has been in the shop since February and took a long time to get a screen repair and some internal replacement for the squeeze feature. Got the phone back last couple weeks and everything is working, except... not all the time. The sensors for auto dimmer, auto rotate, and squeeze assistant features will work, then not work. I had to restart my phone several times and get the little Android guy with the open stomach door to pop up before they worked again. Been reading that this issue started happening to several devices and sounds software related. Google thought they had a fix in the February update but apparently users are still having issues on Pixel 3 and older devices. Common Google let's not ruin basic functions on your customers phones.
