Autobrightness Keeps Disabling

Has anyone else noticed that the "Automatic brightness" box becomes unchecked after a while?

There have been days my battery has been draining like it's had a hole blasted it in, and when I go to the Display settings the box isn't checked anymore. I never unchecked it.

I'm not sure if there is an app causing this, but I never noticed this on my Nexus One, unless I manually over-rided it with the "Power Control" widget.

Power savings settings

I noticed the same thing once when I was letting my battery drain. I think in my case it was the "Enable power saver" which once it kicked in set the brightness to 40% (default) and didn't go back to "Auto" after the battery had recharged.

I'm actually trying my phone for a few days with power saver disabled...

I always turn automatic brightness off on every device I use but I will turn it back on to test this. Its probably a bug which hopefully gets resolved soon in an update.

I have had a hard time getting Auto-brightness to stick too.

I think you have to set Auto-brightness in two places: Display Settings and Power Saver settings. If you set it in Display Settings and not in Power Saver, as soon as the phone goes in to power saver mode, it unsets Auto-brightness.... this is my guess.

I think you guys are correct. However, shouldn't the expected behavior be for it to switch back to Auto Brightness once the phone is charging or charged?

I noticed that this is still an issue: Setting the display to Auto-brightness seems to reset to full brightness at some point in usage.

...but I have not been able to figure out what causes.

I was hoping that after the upgrade to 2.3.4 that this issue would go away, but it is still here.

Anyone else noticing their screen being set to full brightness?

I've noticed every time I use the camera, the auto brightness switches to full brightness and stays at full brightness after the camera is closed.

When I use a book app (Kindle, Cool Reader, etc.) where I've turned the brightness down on the app to avoid straining my eyes, the auto brightness under Display settings disables and goes to full brightness. It might be just any app that adjusts the brightness turns off auto brightness.

Happens to me all the time, not sure exactly if an app is doing it, but it's very annoying.

I've had this problem also, with the same cause-- "Automatic Brightness" (which I always leave on) turns off by itself, and brightness ends up set to the max, as a result of using either the built-in Camera or Gallery apps. This is on a different phone, the HTC Evo Shift 4G, but exactly the same problem. (Sometimes it doesn't happen, e.g. if I only take or look at one or two photos, the brightness setting may remain on automatic. But every time I have the problem, it's associated with Camera and/or Gallery use.)

Once I rooted my phone and installed an alternate ROM this stopped happening.

This annoyed me to no end.

I ended up creating a Tasker profile that sets brightness to auto every time I swipe to unlock the screen. It's overkill, but it's also the only way I can think of to solve this problem.

Might also just go ahead and run another ROM - the Sense reboot (white screen with HTC logo) is also driving me up the wall.

Add me to the list. I'll be sitting there playing a game (like Dragon Fly), and all of a sudden the brightness shoots up to 100%. Not sure what the deal is, but I wish they'd fix it.

My problem is that the Auto-Brightness is dropping to zero...

I think my phone is dead. (laugh)

Still looking for an easy fix.

Re: Autobrightness Keeps Disabling - solved

On my rooted xoom running 3.2, I downloaded the adjbrightness app, and turned ON the DIMMER button/setting. this seemed to solve my issue of the brightness resetting when i returned to the kindle app or other apps.

What did you do with your phone? I pressed this button yesterday and it turned off my phone and i can't turn it on since then.
