[Automated] Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit v1.6.2 (Updated 12/29/12)

Re: [Automated] Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit

You need root access before you can use apps like ROM Manager or Root Explorer...
Here's a screenshot of Root Explorer... up top it will show a box with R/W and next to it will read ... read only. Before you can make changes... you need to press that box so it shows R/O and next to it should read... read and write.

Until you can get the drivers worked out and the phone rooted... you can't use these apps.

OK - I must be confused about something then. Im getting the android with the red triangle and exclaimation point when I try to go through the root step. I thought the instructions that I linked to above (which required root explorer, etc) was the cure to that issue. Are you saying that root would occur prior to that? Thanks!

Re: [Automated] Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.1

I tried this but windows complaints and says it can not find the driver ?
64 bit win7 home premium

edit: I got some help. Apparantly the installer doesn't install all drivers when you select option 1. You need to run it again with option 2. Then the drivers are available under the indicated directory.

edit2: unlocked and rooted now. With the correct driver installed it went very quickly. The unlocking took a bit, the rooting went almost instantly.

Thanks again for the great work !

ive tried option 1 have it auto config the drivers and opt 2 man config still nothing is occuring any suggestions

Did you update the driver and point it at the driver that gets installed with option 2 when you get the exclamation mark ?

Yes... those other instructions are for getting ClockworkMod Recovery to stick permanently. You have the phones stock recovery... then you have CWM Recovery (which requires root access) which is used for installing custom ROMs, backups, restores, etc...

Two seperate things... what you're getting has to do with a problem unlocking the bootloader and rooting the phone. Those other instructions that you linked are for fixing CWM Recovery inside the app ROM Manager.

They are the same exact screen.. but those instructions will not help you with your problem.

Ok - not sure what is going wrong then. I unlocked the bootloader a few weeks ago (confirmed by the unlocked lock at the bottom of the screen when the phone boots). Here are the steps I went through last night:

I opened up Wug's program and downloaded the additional SDK files that I needed - instead of putting them in the default folder, I put them into the platform tools folder that I had already set up. This is where my ADB and fastboot files are located. Im not sure if anything was actually loaded in here or not as Im unsure what additional files need to be added to the folder. I figured that Wug's program would take care of this on its own.

I then hit the driver install button and was given a prompt that I already had the samsung driver installed. I went through the additional steps as prompted and the program recognized my phone as an ADB device.

I then skipped the unlock step and went directly to the root step.

At this point, the program prompts stated something to this effect (Im at a different computer now, so unsure of the exact language):

SU could not be installed
Clockwork recovery successfully installed

My phone then went to the bootloader screen, it had a big green arrow that said START in it. Pursuant to the instructions provided by Wug's program, I used the volume keys to go to a red arrow that said RECOVERY (I believe). I then hit the power key. At that point, the phone went to the android with the red exclaimation point.

In reading Wug's help site, the only thing I can think that I may have done wrong is that I did not uninstall and reinstall the drivers that I had previously installed when I unlocked the phone - however, Im not clear as to whether this is required or not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I figured that this would be the easy part after unlocking : )

I am having the same issue - rooting failed - it rebooted to the red exclamation mark droid. My recovery is not working by any means. No root. No Recovery.

For those having problems getting to recovery and have a yellow triangle with an exclamation point....
You're drivers are only half configured. When you see the yellow exclamation mark, right click it, install drivers... browse locally, and then use the browse button to point to:

C:\android-sdk-windows\extras\drivers\32bit or 64bit depending on your computer

For other errors that occurred from past installs... Use the flash stock and unroot option. Then do it all over.

Thanks this made life so great! :D

Thanks - that was an issue I had when unlocking the bootloader. I do not get the yellow exclaimation point now. So that does not appear to be the root (pun intended) cause of my issue. Also, if I use the flash stock unroot option, wont that require relocking the bootloader and unlocking again - thereby wiping my phone? At this point, if that is the only option, its probably more trouble than its worth as I specifically unlocked early to avoid having to wipe later, once everything was set up.

Back up Question

I'm late to the dance and now have a ton of data on my Nexus. I used to have a rooted droid x with titanium backup pro and now have My back up Pro. So, my question is, if I use My back up pro will all my programs and data be restored automatically as it used to be with titanium. I'd hate to start over...

Yep... backs up apps + app data without root :p. It doesn't backup your phones storage though (music, photos, etc..) so transfer everything over to your computer before you start the unlocking bootloader process.

Re: [Automated] Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.1

I'm getting the Android with the red exclamation point. But my question is, is there an app that I can get that is free to restore the CWM recovery instead of the paid one suggested (Root Explorer)? The free one won't let me change from R/O to R/W

Re: [Automated] Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.1

I found my issue i was using version 1.0 and didnt realize there was v 1.1 which worked witout any problems

Re: [Automated] Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.1

Thanks for this Root! I installed it with no problems!!!!

Re: [Automated] Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.1

Ok, so I'm having trouble with the recovery. I did the steps mentioned on how to change the recovery name, but after I reboot I'm still getting the Android with the red exclamation point. Any help would be appreciated.

Is the phone rooted? Do you have a superuser icon in the app drawer?

Yes. After I reboot, it stays on that screen (with the Android and red exclamation point), then it reboots the phone normally after about 5 minutes if I don't pull the battery.

In ROM Manager... install the Recovery. Directions are in the first steps in the first post of this guide: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...-install-roms-galaxy-nexus-2.html#post1499779

Then follow the directions in the exact order from page 2 from that same guide I linked.
