Automatic WiFi - Pixel XL+Oreo

Pixel phones running Android 8.0 is supposed to have the "Turn on WiFi Automatically" feature. The feature is listed under Network Settings/WiFi Preferences, but is greyed out in the "ON". I would like to know if actually works for anyone. I turned my WiFi radio off when I was at work and when I arrived home, the WiFi never detected the "saved" network so it didn't turn the WiFi on. I had to turn it off on manually. Does it work or not? More wishful thinking? TIA

Works perfectly for me. In fact a little too well if I'm walking down the street or something it will connect and disconnect too often

Thanks for your response. Is your WiFi radio actually turned off or just idle when you connect? Do you have the open network notification turned on? TIA

It works either way for me. If I have it off it will turn itself on and connect when I get home, for instance
