I have been noticing every few days my Galaxy S5 keep telling me every few days I am approaching he limit of available data so and delete an app to make space available. What confuses me is that the grey part of the device data bar appears to be multiple GBs, but the displays a MB below or data.

So today I took my wife's 5 and compared the data. I added all the data up on her phone and it came out to be about 15 GB. When I add up all the data on mine, it comes about to about 9.7 GB. Connected my phone to my computer and starting looking at the device data quite hard and found the folder called Android on the phone contains almost 6 GB of data. Inside the folder is only 3 folders (obb, media, and data), and none of these have more than out 150 KB each. I cannot see the files causing all the data to be taken up in the folder either on my compute or the phone when I search under files. When I looked at my wife's phone at the same on the computer, it has about 300 kb of total. I account for the about 300 KB of the data in the folder, this 5.7 GB is about how much data I should have available that isn’t.

What is my issue and how do I fix it? I am considering a factory reset since have already backed up all my contacts, ect. My pictures and videos are kept on a SD card that every month move the files over to my computer. My only concern is if the factory reset would actually clear the folder.

I believe it means the usage and not the memory... go into settings and tap on "Data Usage" my top right. You should be able to raise the bar to alert you when you get closer to going over. My wife and I both have unlimited data so I raised mine pretty high.

That looks like mobile data. My issue is not with available mobile data, but memory data being available for Apps and other files. Thank you though.
