Avoid Verizon $20 upgrade fee

I'm thinking of buying the Note 7 when it comes out. I remember back in April that Verizon added a $20 fee for line activations even if you pay full price.

What if I buy it outside of a Verizon store? Can I pay full price at somewhere like Best Buy and just pop in an existing SIM to avoid this fee?

Thoughts appreciated and if this has already been answered feel free to link me to another post.

Thanks.

I believe, if you pre-order online they are waiving the $20 fee. At least it seems that way, but with Verizon, you never know, it took me almost 3 hours and 2 phone calls to get my pre-order in.

Yeah online orders for Verizon are waived. I'm on ATT and they charge a $15 fee. But since I'm a premier customer with a good employer discount I'll just call them and have it credited back.

Any idea if I can avoid it by just buying it outright at Best Buy and putting my Note 5 SIM into it?

Not really sure. Even orders through best buy add the activation fee. Not sure what they do for outright purchases. If you have some time, go on the sites and see what happens.

You won't pay an activation/upgrade fee at Best Buy if you are paying full price. It's treated like a SIM card swap as far as Verizon is concerned.
