Back/Menu button only work when backlight is off

5.0.1 stock firmware, not currently rooted, moderate skill level

Back and menu keys don't work! I thought it was due to the thickness of the screen protector, but I noticed that the keys work ONCE and don't work again until the softkey backlight turns off.

So I turned off the backlight entirely and the keys work perfectly... but I want the light. I never had a problem with my old S4, other than the glass is cracked

Any idea on the backlight kills buttons issue?

Welcome to Android Central! Try wiping the cache partition: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-5744. If that doesn't help, see if it persists in Safe Mode (steps also in that link).

We are going to send it back in for repair. It went out for repair because the phone wouldn't recognize the SD card, then I get it, flash the stock firmware on it and the sim card doesn't work again. I would love to know what caused it but I feel like the someone sneezes when they were replacing the screen and nicked something! I will follow up again if I get it back.
