After a few years on an iPhone 14, I’m back in the android corner with a Pixel 10 Pro on Google Fi. I was on Visible with the iPhone and the discounts on availability on Pixel phones on Google Fi made the switch a better deal over all. About $20 less a month vs staying with Visible and buying a Pixel through them. I tried to change over to Google Fi with the family a few years ago but Fi and iPhones don’t play well together. It was a cluster farque with my wife’s iPhone and she wanted nothing to do with Google Fi. And pigs would fly, Hades would freeze over and the Texans will win a Super Bowl before she changes from an iPhone. Picking your battles is important in a marriage.
Anyway, I hesitated changing before back to android because of all the hassle it is to switch from iOS to Android. But now Android has RCS which allows for iMessage like messaging with iPhones. I do use the find my feature on iPhone to know where my wife and children (all grown and out of the house) whereabouts, the location sharing on Google Maps will take care of that. And I have a brother who moved overseas and we use iMessage to stay in touch as well as FaceTime. I can message him on my MacBook and do FaceTime there also. Or maybe some other video chat app.
The hassle is part of the reason I switched. If Apple is nefarious in causing more hassle or just innocent is for another thread. The fact it’s a hassle and it shouldn’t be makes me want to ditch them. On the Android side I can go from a Pixel to a Galaxy phone without a hitch. If a Motorola Razr phone catches my eye I can switch to that one also. The ease of changing opens up so much more variety.
I’ll be loosing the seemless Apple ecosystem I’ve built. I have a MacBook and an Apple TV. But I can still use my MacBook just fine without an iPhone and the Apple TV could easily be replaced with a Google TV or a Roku stick.
And I’d be a green bubble. Ohh the shame of being a green bubble, I shan’t show my face in public for the humiliation. NOT!! I give not a rats hind end what anyone thinks of me. Pixels are kept in high regard by the masses as well. Team green bubble and proud. And unlike an iPhone, if I want to change the bubbles colors on my Pixel, I’m able to do so. On an iPhone that ain’t the case. Nothing outside the walled garden for you!!
Anywho, I’m waiting on tue delivery of the Pixel at some point in the next few days. I look forward to a long and productive relationship. Take care and be blessed.
