Background app changes?

I use Google Messages as my text app and rely heavily on web-based access to same. Pre-14, as long as the phone and PC were on the same LAN and the phone was powered on, they could find each other. Now that I have 14 (non-beta, on my Pixel 7 Pro), the web app can't find it unless the phone is unlocked with Messages in the foreground. Background data is enabled for the Messages app.

My 7 Pro hasn't gotten 14 yet, so I can't test it, but have you tried unpairing the Messages for Web app, then re-pairing with your phone?

Over in the pro 7 forum I've mentioned the issues I've had since updating. Today (even though working last nigh) the sim no longer working. The wifes sim works in my pp7 but my sim no longer works in either her moto or my daughters iphone 14. I can only surmise that the 14 update has some how fritz'd my sim as all way ok until updating.
