For the last several months whenever i turn the screen back on to use my tablet after not being on it for awhile a random android background app had crashed and I get the wait or end task message. it's different ones each time. i even factory reset it and it still does it. i don't know what is wrong. also it randomly starts playing my youtube playlists that is on pause too. or i hear tons of notifications from FB while i'm not even on it. i hear it in the other room. it's like i just turned the screen on and get hit with a lot of notifications and except i'm not even in the room with it. there is plenty of free storage space on the main storage.

What's the model number of your tablet, and which Android version is it on?

Does this happen in Safe Mode as well, or does it not happen frequently enough for it to be a feasible test? (You'll only be able to test preinstalled apps.) www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00062983/

Do you have any 3rd party "RAM booster" apps installed?

Do you have any apps "moved to SD"?

SM-T510

i never used safe mode

No i don't have Ram boosters installed. don't need to since it's built into the newer android systems.

I don't have any apps moved to SD card.

edit: just went to check the tablet and this time the app that crashed was called Group Share.

Do you have a lot of apps downloaded on it? Is everything up to date? Ever install apps outside of the play store? When you hear the notifications do you actually get a notification or just the sound?

Download malwarebytes and run a scan. If you only download from the play store then it's probably not a virus. It might just be that you only have 2 or 3 gb of ram and too many things are running in the background.

Something else I would check is if Google play services is up to date. Go to settings then apps, hit 3 dot menu in top right and select show system. Then find and click Google play services, scroll to the bottom where it says installed from play store. Hit that and it will take you to the play store. If it says update then update it, if not then disregard.

The reason I asked about Safe Mode was as a suggestion to test it in Safe Mode. If the problem goes away, then the problem is being caused by some app you installed. If it persists in Safe Mode, then there's something wrong with the system and/or hardware.

I haven't tried it yet. the other day i paused YT in my sleep. then later it started playing again and woke me up and then i couldn't' go back to sleep. i have noticed lately that Action Launcher crashed twice and google Play store crashed also. last time i had this problem was with an older Galaxy Tablet and i had to replace the motherboard twice. i guess the onboard storage was going bad.
I hope this isn't' the case. I never had that problem with phones so i don't know why tablets have this problem.

Safe Mode is an easy troubleshooting step. Until you try it, it's hard to comment further.

You can also try wiping the cache partition, which won't affect your personal data. https://thedroidguy.com/how-to-clea...y-tab-a-steps-to-refresh-system-cache-1109346

I finally got around to wiping the cache partition. that didn't help. haven't tried safe mode yet. does youtube and other apps work in safe mode? I mainly use my tablet to watch youtube or other streaming apps.

Any preinstalled app will work in Safe Mode. YouTube is preinstalled on most Google-certified devices, so I'm guessing it'll work on your tablet.

i'll have to try it. One thing i noticed lately is it takes 10 seconds to go back to the homescreen after leaving youtube. or some apps. it used to be fast enough. i reset the whole thing awhile back btw. so i don't know what the deal is. it's always been a good tablet since i bought it in 2020. I hope there's not a hardware problem like my old Galaxy Tablet had twice. where the onboard storage started getting corrupted and i had to replace the mobo twice. but i never had onboard storage on phones go bad. have you heard of that happening for phones or tablets? i had my share of SD or microSD cards go bad.

Devices can slow down over time, due to a combination of becoming relatively underpowered (as the OS and apps progress in complexity) and possibly aging memory. Many years ago, Android devices used to have a significant slowdown problem after a certain number of read/write operations on the onboard memory, but this was corrected: https://www.androidpolice.com/2013/...ld-fix-most-storage-related-device-slowdowns/. But this does raise the possibility, as you mentioned, that the memory is starting to fail.

If the problems persist in Safe Mode, then you may have to do another full factory reset -- and this time, don't restore it from a backup, and don't start reinstalling apps immediately. See if the crashes and lag are still present with the tablet in a barebones state.
