Background Sync App?

Is there an app that let's you enable and disable background sync on a time schedule?
I'm asking because I find that my battery lasts way longer when I turn it on and then off every hour manually. I basically turn it on and let my phone sync for about a minute, then I turn it off again for about an hour or so.
Like I said, I'm really just looking for an app that automates this process.

I would guess that Tasker could do this, but I haven't tried it myself.
