backing up files

I'm coming from blackberry (for 5 years!) and i just got my first htc. The blackberry came with a software that backs up and restore the phone. Does HTC or droid have something like that?

Please help.

(sorry if this topic has been created already. i can't find it under htc inspire.)

the only way to backup the phone contents would be to root it.

First, on the Android phones the Contacts, Tasks, Emails are automatically backed up (synchronized) if you use Gmail.
If you use IMAP accounts for your other email it's also on the servers which you can access from any computer.
Search the "Market". I have seen some Back Up apps for pictures, music etc.

there are backup apps in the market, but you have to be rooted for most to work. Ti backup is one of the best, but again, root is essential.
