Hi All,

I had a few questions about backing up the phone and the methods associated with it. I did a quick search, but if this has already been explained somewhere, excuse my ignorance and point me in the right direction. ;)

(Background) I have had an EVO 4G for a couple of months now. I rooted (via unrevoked) and flashed the Fresh Evo ROM from XDA. Before flashing I created a backup through ClockworkMod. After flashing, I downloaded Titanium backup, and created two (just in case) and set up a regular backup.

Questions: What exactly is backed up via each one of these backup methods (titanium vs clockwork)?

I keep hearing about the Nandroid backup - does either of these backup "everything"?

I'm not terribly concerned about the applications themselves being backed up, (I can sync through app brain) but more the data associated with them. Do either of these back up the data?

If I were to flash a new ROM and then "restore" one of these backups, will it keep the new ROM and load the old data?

Thanks in advance...

First the 'clockwork backup' is a nadroid backup. Any backup you make in recovery is going to be a nadroid backup. Nadroid backups save how you phone is surrently setup the rom and all. This is a how you would restore things if flashing a rom doesn't work out or you corrupt something and need to go back to when you phone wa running before.

titanium- only backups data like apps, email, contact, etc, etc. This is what you would use to restore your data after flashing a new rom and don't want to set things up by hand.

Sweet, thanks so much. So just to clarify, restoring the very first backup I made would restore the original Sprint ROM before I flashed it, AND all of the associated data?

Yes, it will take you back to whatever rom you were on when you did the nandroid back up. In your case the stock rooted sprint rom, with all the data. Its like a freeze frame of your system.

Also note that nandroid backups are all or nothing. You can't selectively restore anything, just take your phone back to the exact state it was in at the time of the backup.

Titanium only backs up your data, programs, settings. But you can selectively restore individual files or classes of files if you need to.

The two backup ways are complementary. You really want to do both.
