I believe it can. But it is an htc service. Not much different than with ios. It's just an option if this service is very important. People don't mention it enough. The HTC One did a great job of importing my wife's calendar and contacts from her BlackBerry. Worked great.

I have a friend who dropped his phone into his beer. He bought another HTC phone, turned it on and all of his info synced perfectly. Just like his old phone including text messages.
