So, I've searched the forums. Ive searched other forums and I'm not really finding a clear answer.

I just need to know the answers to these questions:

1. Is there a root method that does not require me resetting my phone?

and if no to that:

2. How can I backup my phone data and restore after rooting? I am mainly concerned with text history. I need a backup solution that works without root, of course.

Thanks.

1. if you installed the ota, no
2. appbrain will do apps for you

you can download a app from market such a wavesecure, that will back up your texts.

Use Titanium backup or MyBackupPro to restore your applications and home screens...

Would the MyBackup Trial version work for what Im trying to do? I really only need to backup and restore once. I'm not looking to continually backup my phone.

You can root with unrevoked 3 and not lose anything even if you ran the OTA update. Then you can backup any way you like.
