One of the things I loved about the iPhone is that the cloud worked so well for when I upgraded not only did it download all my data but it also downloaded all the apps and how it was setup and etc.

So I Google it and it seems like Samsung allow you to backup somethings to the SD card but I would love to basically make an image of the phone and save it on the SD card as backup and periodically do that more for the apps and how it's setup than anything else.

With all these apps I wouldn't be surprised if there is an app for it.

So is there a way?

Custom recoveries can make backup images of devices. However, some devices are more difficult to put recoveries on. There is also and ADB command that can backup your phone directly to your PC.

As an IT guy I a have no idea what these things are. Guessing apps. I don't specialize in phones but learning the Droid world a little at a time.

As a caution to this, I see many posts here from users trying to recover files because their SD card has failed without warning. Just FYI. A PC, cloud or other external storage would be a much better choice IMO.

I believe in multiple backups instead of relying on just one. With that said I would like to do the SD as well as the computer and possibly take that computer backup and copy to one of my external HDD's.

Like you said, SD's can and will eventually fail. The big difference between a SD and HDD is once the SD fails that's it. With the HDD there are situations where you can do possible tricks to get the data. One that sticks out is the freezer trick; yes you read that right.
