Bank of America App will not accept check image

For MotoX users: As mentioned below, the mobile deposit function WILL work if you stand back further when taking the picture. This was a huge help for me .

I had the same issue with Cap One. The image you THINK is being transmitted is truncated at the corners. Just distance the phone further from the check and it will work.

I found the same thing, you have to back away more when taking the pictures. Chris

Thanks that advice helped a lot. I was having the same problem with my droid Ultra. The app always worked fine with my iPhone but when I got the Droid it wouldn't accept the pictures. The pictures looked better and clearer to me but the B of A app would not accept them. I tried taking the pictures with the phones farther away and it worked!

I'm having the same problem with my Samsung Galaxy S5. My BOA app won't accept a perfectly clear photo with all 4 corners of the check, but my old HTC Incredible works fine on the same check.

I actually saw that myself I went to go take a picture of my check was only and it failed everything off I have to go deposit it into my actual ATM and then I saw an update on my phone they must have to update the coding for the application itself

BACK AWAY FROM THE CHECK!!!!!

I use the BofA app to deposit checks for work and personal all the time. Never had an issue with Samsung Galaxy S3, but when I first got the S4 I vaguely remember it not accepting photos (corners not in picture errors) but I just used my tablet and then it eventually got fixed. Been using the S4 without issue for about a year. This week we got the Galaxy S5 and....back to errors about the corners not showing up. Tried with both printed and hand written checks. After reading thru this thread I thought what the heck I'll try REALLY backing out and taking a little tiny check picture.....and.....it worked! Out of habit I always try to get the corners just inside of the on screen grid thinking that will give the bank the best picture but apparently they zoom it in some automatically which then takes out the corners I was so careful to get just inside those lines :D

Thank you. This is what worked. You have to back out quite a bit farther than the outline they have, so the words "FRONT OF CHECK" barely fit on the check in your viewfinder.

Thanks again

same for me. my Gnex worked 95% of the time, I'm lucky if i get even 1 of the 2 pictures to work. sometimes it will accept a picture, then ill take the second one. when its verifying the second picture, it then denies the first one. Driving to a BofA is just annoying around where i live so i really wouldn't mind if they fixed it sooner than later

Yes Guys...it will work..just on the moto x pull back a lot farther than you think you should be and it will do it fine.

I googled trying to find a solution to this exact problem with the S5 and came across this forum. Taking a picture from further away DOES work. I didn't think it would, but it did! Yay!:D

This is a common issue I have had via multiple phone and multiple remote deposit apps. The solve was always make the check image smaller. The issue is not with the banks but the vendor who wrote the image capture software that banks use.

Wells Fargo app would take the picture. After the app uploaded and processed the image everything was blurry. Wouldn't accept the image. Gave one star and explained problem. Next update fixed the issue on my moto x.

I also have a MotoX, and with BofA's upgrade this past summer it suddenly would not accept the photos...I would take a shot, the thing would churn and churn and then say NO PICTURE. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and got it to eventually work, for one check (I needed to deposit two checks). Then stopped working. So got out my old Apple Ipod Touch, downloaded the BofA app, used it, and it worked just fine. Then I called BofA and they told me that the upgraded app required Android 4.2 or better...and my MotoX has 4.0 something. Anyhow, I let them know that requiring a phone that is only a year old is to ignore millions of their customers who cannot afford (or whose contracts do not allow) to upgrade a phone every year. When I have to do another deposit, I will try the trick of pulling much further back from the check, rather than using the brackets that show on their "camera view". Hope that will work. B of A knows they have this problem, there are literally hundreds of similar complaints on their app site, and all they do is suggest you call their tech dept. By now their tech dept should have figured out that the problem lies with BofA, not the users! I used the app regularly for over a year (ran a small business at home and invoices were paid by checks) and processed literally hundreds of checks without a single problem until they updated. They have really crappy customer service.

Uh, why don't you just upgrade the OS to Android 4.4.4? Thousands of Moto X users have done so.
