I have noticed on a couple of threads about the lack of banking apps on Huawei handsets that don't support Google, if im honest this was something that concerned me when purchasing my new P40 pro. However I decided to take the plunge and see if I could live with using my banking apps. Because I knew I could simply create a shortcut to my homepage and login that way. Well how wrong was I! Not because I hate online banking through a website but because when I set up my P40 Pro and used their phone clone app I was able to get my First Direct account up and running!! This also works for HSBC.
I would genuinely not believe the hype about the banking apps. not being available as this isn’t always the case. If your banking app isn’t available you can just create a shortcut to the home screen and login that way. The difference is very minimal as I learnt when I logged in to my Lloyds shortcut.

Welcome to Android Central! For me, the main advantages of banking apps are (1) efficiency -- apps typically work much faster than logging into the mobile website, (2) a bit more security -- apps often incorporate biometric options for login, and (3) the ability to deposit checks by taking a picture of them. But if the mobile sites work fine for you, then no problem!:)

Hello, thankyou for the welcome. I look forward to using this forum more!! Hopefully I will be able to help with as many tips as I have picked up from browsing through some of the threads!!

I do prefer an app but it wouldn't be the end of the world if I had to wait a few more seconds, in terms of the security I still have the biometric option for login even on the site- like you and probably everyone else- I prefer it this way as if someone wa to steal my phone theyd need to steal my thumb too! The third ones not a massive issue for me as I don't deposit cheques, but I completely take on board what you mean!! Like you said its what works for certain people :)

Hi, not seeing why your so anti-Huawei? This is the second post of mine you've commented on? As mentioned above my app works and I know a few others do to as long as they are available to phone clone across. Like Jonny2bits says its not the end of the world if you go via your browser.

Hope this helps brother

I can certainly see why people would want these phones -- they have undeniably excellent hardware. Hopefully the unfortunate business situation resolves at some point!

I do not see the comment you responded to as anti-Huawei. It was about being a "deal breaker" when looking for new phones. Though there may be ways around not having a specific bank app, it is about convenience and security. One thing people is always overlooking whether it is on mobile or pc, is the banks tos. They have rules the user must abide by otherwise any fraudulent activity will not be covered by the bank. IMO, before getting a Huawei phone, better read the user agreement from the bank and make sure the phone is in good standing with the bank - especially those phones not using google play services and android operating system.

The problem with Huawei phones right now has more to do with sanctions than with anything else. Support for their phones has dwindled because of it. Since newer phones are no longer running android, new apps must be created for the newer phones. but why spend money creating an app that might only be needed as long as the sanctions exist, especially since I read the other day a new os in China is in development that will run android apps.

Huawei has some great phones and I would consider getting one except at this time, it could be too much of a hassle to own one because of all political interference. what is working today may not work tomorrow.

Its more based on this persons first comment to me on a different post.

The phone is still running android? Google Mobile services and android are separate things. I have already had an update on my first direct app on my P40 Pro so it benefits from all the latest features.

In terms of security I have never found issues with the security aspect. I agree with the convenience of the app but I would also not be bothered by the home screen option - however, it is all dependant on the individual. I only use my app to see whats gone in and out of my bank.

I have preferred not having GMS mainly because I don't have the extras in it that I cant remove. With my P40 Pro I have all necessary apps and it functions well. Googles just become the norm to have on a phone, in reality I was only using chrome and play store to download my apps and now I have Browser and AppGallery- although I have swapped it out for petal search as ive found a lot more on there.
