sorry if this has been answered before, im sure it has, but i spent like 10 minutes trying to find this post in the forums but must have been searching the wrong key words...

anyway, i just got my eris the other day and I am starting to browse these forums looking for new apps and tips and tricks and what not, and i often see people posting barcodes for their apps. what program do i need to be able to scan these barcodes so i cant easily download these apps?

again, i realize this has probably been answered, but with so many threads with "barcode" in them, it became a daunting task to search through everything

thanks for your help! so far, im loving the eris!!! im an old blackberry storm 1 users, and trust me, eris is top notch compared to it.

You can use Shop Savvy, which is also helpful when you're in the store to scan barcodes for prices and reviews. Another good one is Barcode Scanner. They are both popular apps and shouldn't be difficult to find in the Android Market.

I have ShopSavvy and Barcode Scanner, both work well. They are not far down in the 'all applications' section of the market if you sort by popularity. Or just search barcode scanner

I use both, and they work fine on Eris, I'm still trying to figure out which one I'm going to keep since they do the same thing. I'm leaning towards Barcode Scanner

My girlfriend has tried both on her Eris and neither worked.

Haven't tried on my Droid.

It took me a while to figure this out, but there's a specific distance that you want to use for scanning. Not too close and not too far. Once I got used to the technique, I was able to get it to work reliably. But maybe there's an issue with the Eris specifically not being able to do this.

I found out that when my wife and I bought these phones the Verizon agent never took the sticky lens protector off the camera before putting the case we purchased over the back of the phone. Boy, did that screw up the barcode scanning!
Once I pulled of the lens protector the barcode scanning went from nearly impossible to instantaneously successful. :)

The Cap'n.
