I'd like the following features for my Optimus V, is there a ROM that would accomplish this? I basically want a fast, responsive phone with good battery life with no frills.

1) Rooted
2) Ability to downclock/upclock CPU to maximize performance and battery.
3) Get rid of all the crapware that I don't use on the phone
4) Have the battery % in the status bar
5) Eliminate annoying boot animations/sounds
6) Eliminate Haptic Feedback

Rooting has to be done prior to flashing a ROM to your phone.

Aphrodites is the cleanest, I believe, that is out there.

As for the status bar there is a site that "cooks" you a file you flash to your phone and it has plenty of options if you want to check it out.

Does anyone have instructions on how to compile a kernel using lg's open source from their website. I have compiled kernel's in various distro's of linux before but never for android. What tool's commands would i need.

Also would this be possible to do from a terminal emulator as i would need to borrow a laptop from a friend tomorrow. I found this in the readme file.

2. Kernel Build

2.1 Untar the kernel package using follwwing command at the android folder
- tar zxvf VM670_kernel.tar.gz

2.2 Execute make.
- Set the compile environment
- gcc 4.4.1
- Ubuntu 9.10
- make thunderc-sprint-perf_defconfig
- make or 'make -j<n>' where '<n>' is the number of multiple jobs to be invoked simultaneously.
- If the kernel is built sucessfully, you will find the build images in this directory,
"arch/arm/boot"

NEVAR!!!

(this can be done with a free app called 'spare parts')

Spare Parts does not completely disable haptic feedback. Things like turning the phone on/off or unlocking the screen will still vibrate. It's pretty pointless for me since I can see what's going on by looking at the screen. No point to have feedback on the screen AND vibration from the phone draining the battery.

I really just want the stock ROM without all the crap, is there just a basic Android ROM without VM's bloatware?

Stock + Xionia or Aphrodite.

Aphrodite has the most stuff removed from the stock setup. She used the Stock + Xionia Rom and stripped more out of it. It's literally barebones as far as ROMs go leaving you with a great blank slate to work with. Rodimus is what I am currently using but there are more modifications made to his which you can read in the first post of his ROM and comparing it to either of the other 2 ROMs descriptions in their first posts also.
