I saw another thread about this for the S7, but my S9+ has recently started to do this at around 40%, it goes to zero and phone shuts off. Phone will be 2 years old in Spring. First Samsung phone, long time user of Motorola before that, and I never had that sort of battery issue with Motorola. Guess I need to buy a new battery? I also had an LG phone once before too, but that suffered the boot loop issue.

Do you frequently let the battery drop to zero or near-zero? If so, 2 years is probably the right time for it to start exhibiting behavior like this, since frequent deep discharges can shorten the battery's lifespan.

Textbook symptom of a worn out battery.

As for the LG comment, their G4 and V10 phones had a design flaw causing bootloops, and are not related to the problem with the S7.
