Battery after latest update?

Is anyone else's battery going down the toilet since the update two days ago?

I usually end the day, roughly 8am - 10:30pm, with 50% - 60% power left.

These last two days I've ended with 8% and 11%.

That's using a Facer uh... face, lol with lots and lots of info coming in, so it's not the best on battery, but I've never been below 50%.

I'm using a face from the Playstore, a Pixel, minimal info, battery saving face, today that usually ends with close to 70%.

However, it's been off the charger for only an hour so far, started at 100%, and is already down to 91%.

I was wondering if it was a Facer specific issue, but I'm now thinking not.

Anyone else?

It's facer. Facer watch faces use a lot of battery. I got one off Google playstore and battery life went way up. Yesterday I ended day at 60%.

That's after the update. I think battery might have gotten better after the update

It's not Facer specifically since before the update I never ended the day with less than 50%, not ever.

It's definitely because of the update, but I was wondering if Facer might have to change something.

However, just since posting at 9:02am, and it's now 9:45am, this watch face, (https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...letondor.pixelminimalwatchface&token=li9V6QC1) , has gone from 91% to 88%..

The update has absolutely not helped my battery, its definitely hurt it, probably just more so with Facer since it is a bit more battery intensive to start with.

I'll update later tonight with my results.

The update had most definitely negatively impacted my Watch 4 for sure. :(

My battery life is slightly better after the update. GW4 LTE (non-classic). Using Pixel Minimal Face, I usually get 1d, 4h to 1d, 6h before the update. Today with that same watch face, I'm at 1d with 11h, 14 m left. I know it isn't much but better. I will have to see how that trends out over the next few days.

As another post said, my battery life got better after update. If your battery wasn't draining below half using facer before the update, you were one of the few. My battery life instantly improved after dropping facer. Everyone's milage varies

I have noticed my battery took a big hit after the latest update. I don't use facer and my watch face is pixel minimal. I just did a reset on it and let's see if that helps but I'm not real hopeful v

So, either I'm not going nuts, or both of us are, lol.

I've got that same face going now, it's been 12 hours, I've only used a 15 minute timer today as far as "using" the watch, but mostly just in AOD mode, and I'm down to 44% already.

It'll be another 2/2.5 hours before it goes back on tbe charger for the night, and I predict that it will be in the 20's%... not really all that different than Facer.

Technically worse because my Facer watch face gives all of this info:

I'm usually only down to 60/70% by 10/10:30pm,(14'ish hours), with the Playstore Pixel Minimal ... so this issue isn't just Facer.

I'm just speaking my experience. Battery life is very dependant on individual. I have no idea why yours went down and some of ours went up. Obviously you have a different issue. Good luck, I'm going to monitor just in case I get this battery disease and there's a solution that pops up. I feel your pain, I wanted to go back to my watch 3, then I dropped facer and problem went away, so facer was my issue.

Yes, I had the same issue! I use AOD and I monitor my battery usage with the SW Energy Monitor app. Before the update, I had an average battery discharge rate of about 4%/hour. Afterwards, it went up to 20%/hour! Yes, that means I would be getting about a 5 hour battery life. I tried resetting my watch about an hour ago, so too early to tell if that resolves the problem. But judging by my battery discharge rate it looks like it hasn't.

I've had this happen on previous Galaxy Watches right after a software update. On my Gear S3 Frontier I even had the battery replaced, and it didn't resolve the issue. I may need to make a warranty claim.

By reset do you mean that you did a factory reset, and aren't updating, or you restarted the watch?

I did a factory reset. When you factory reset, the watch still retains the latest firmware update. Once you update you can't roll back (for better or worse). At least not through any Samsung-sanctioned means...

Another update: I called T-Mobile and they set me up with a repair (and possibly replacement) appointment for tomorrow. Let's see what happens!

Ah, gotcha.

Factory resetting a Samsung phone does reset it all the way, I've done it... just figured the watch would be the same.

Research across the web is reporting all kinds of 3rd party watch face issues since the update.

AOD not showing, just turning off, tap to wake not working, AOD not updating time until you wake the phone, excessive battery drain, (all of which I'm also experiencing).

Supposedly this has been reported to Samsung by people as well as third party developers, and Samsung is looking into a fix... so I doubt your reset will fix it unfortunately.

Ok after resetting the watch and after 13 hours off the charger I am at 65%, which is 30% better than I was getting previously before the reset. So resetting seemed to have helped me anyways.

Ugh... the thought of re-installing, and setting everything up, again though... :-[

I might just give it a go. Using my favorite Facer watch face, (pictured in an above post), lasted a whopping 11 hours today. :'(

With all those issues on top of the battery drain..I would have reset the watch already. Resetting the watch isn't as bad as the phone, but agree it's a pain. I would reset before going thru the warranty claim.

I know my watch faces issued a update for something, it was a work around for Samsung watches.

So I went to a T-Mobile repair shop yesterday (apparently these exist), and they spent two hours on diagnostics of my watch, only to report they couldn't find out what was happening, even though they admitted they could see the terrible battery drain issue occurring. I asked for a warranty replacement and they ordered one. Let's see if it works any better after the update!

It's been a couple days with the replacement watch. I updated to the latest software right out of the box, and it appears that my battery is functioning normally!

Fantastic.

Frankly after the first three days my battery is back to normal, with no updates of any kind.

Maybe things had to settle in again as new watches/phones/tablets tend to do?

However, I still have the other issues with my Facer watch face.

Going on the charger seems to lock the face, because in the morning it's completely non-responsive, and still shows the time/date/stats from when I placed it on the charger. I can't even change to a different face of any kind on the watch itself. I have to go to WearOS app, change the face, then change it back to Facer, and it then works normally.

The other issue, using ANY watch face, is that sometimes the AOD just shuts off, and I have a black screen, tapping it wakes it up again.

Battery life is much shorter after this update. I have tried to use AOD and almost none of the non-samsung faces will work. In fact, I wonder if that's part of the problem. I thought it was just happening with my favorite watch face, Marine Commander and was waiting to see if the dev would update.

Additionally, when I'm watching media from my phone, I think that is really burning battery life as well. The GW4 always syncs during media to be able to act as a controller to pause/play, but I really don't use that feature. Everytime I look at my watch when playing media, it displays the little dancing music note. I'd just assume that to be completely turned off.

For now, I disabled AOD and the continuous heart monitoring to help reduce battery consumption. But I'm not at all happy about this. The update didn't bring us Google Assistant, so I would rather dial back to the previous software version.

Here's one of the watch developers responding to someone about battery drain on GW4 since the update.
