About how long should it take to charge the battery from dead, 20% and 50% provided the phone is on standby? What impact should WiFi, blue tooth and mobile data have? I feel it takes forever to charge to 100% but is pretty quick to discharge.

Compared to other devices it does. Qualcomm's quick charge feature is disabled on the one. I'm assuming this is because the battery is non-replaceable. The designers could have disabled this to prolong overall life of the battery, however nobody can tell you but them.

It takes a long time to charge the device, however if the device is OFF or what you mentioned above is disabled, it should charge a bit quicker. There are kernels that enable Qualcomm Quick Charge but I don't find them safe.

It surely takes more time than most as the Quick Charge feature is disabled.

I don't have Battery Saver on and the phones keeps going most of the day. The only day it automatically switch on, I did noticed that charging took less time. This is most likely because the phone shuts down data connection, underclocks the CPU and others things.

I haven't tried to turn Battery Saver on manually to see how fasts it charges, but you can try and see if it helps when you need a quick charge.

I think fro m 5% it will take it a good 5 hours to charge back to full. Like the others said...HTC turned off fast charge to keep the battery healthy longer.

This is the main reason that I will stay away from HTC One, it takes 3 hours to fully charge, because of the absence of Qualcomm quick charge feature, The Galaxy S4 has a bigger battery and takes less time to charge.

Note: I'm a HTC One X user I love the phone and HTC's sense UI but really disappointed with the battery life, most of all charging time which is also 3 hours.

Doesn't matter for the average user. Battery lasts all day long for me and in some cases for a few days! Plus just let it charge over night....

Not really reluctant to leave it on charge over night as I've seen from the past this kind of habit degrades your phone battery health.

I have never seen this before. After it hits 100% it stops charging anyways an not over heating.

This is somewhat disappointing news. I really like the htc one but a full charge is only lasting me 4-5 hours. I stream a lot of media, game, and am on the Internet quite a bit. It kind of stinks to be charging it almost more than I'm using it. I feel it's like the remote control cars I had when I was younger, I had to charge the batteries for a few hours to be able to play for 20-30 minutes.

Well I suppose you could also use a socket timer if you are worried like me :) but I hate to admit as much as I love the design and sense 5 of the HTC One I am definitely getting an S4 because of the beautiful wider amoled screen and longer battery life.

I say get whatever floats your boat my friend! Most reviews say that the batteries are on par. The S4 has a bigger screen so it needs the slightly bigger batter. This is why I'm glad we have choices on the Android platform. Let us know how the S4 is when ya pick it up! Enjoy the new toy! I love my HTC One so far. :)

With older batteries yes.. With these batteries of today no.

Sent from my Sprint HTC One using AC forums.

This ^ Leave your phone charging overnight and it'll be ready for use when you wake up. Doing this will likely increase battery life due to avoiding deep discharging which is one of the major factors in lithium based battery degradation. If you can charge it, charge it.

This guy speaks the truth.

Also, for sure one thing I miss from my GS4 - it charged incredibly fast.

Charge rate is one of the downfall of the HTC One. If decide to put the One on the charger you need to have it on for atleast an hour to get some decent charge. from 5% to 100% takes 3.5 to 4 hours. For people who need a quick charge and go the HTC One is a let down in that department. With a car charger I can get as much as 50% on any other phone but with the HTC one I would be lucky to get 20%. So having a car charger has nearly become pointless.

Or mandatory?
Unless you are constantly away from a power source(easily fixed with an external battery) I can't see how charge rate matters all that much. Just plug it in when you aren't using and you should maintain a decent battery level to get you through a day or more. Also, it's not like you can't use the phone while it's charging.
