Battery charging

Today I was reading a book using the Nook app when my Nexus 7 rebooted. When it came back up, the battery level had gone from about 50% to 15% so I plugged in the charger. Now it's down to 0% (but still says it is charging). Battery apps say zero volts and zero milliamps, but that's obviously wrong because if I unplug the tablet it works fine.

What's going on?

Are you running a custom rom?

I only ask cause I see my phone do similar stuff from time to time, if you let it charge fully to 100 then it will test the battery stats, from what I believe it happens every time

I'm using the factory charger on a stock Nexus 7. I'm going to let it charge overnight and see what happens.

Well, looks like whatever the problem is, it's permanent. I bought it at Staples, but all the stores around here are out of 16GB models. I ordered another from Google. When it gets here, I'll take thus one back for a refund.
