Battery Drain while in Standby

Through android market. There was an update today so I'm gonna give it another shot.

hmm i too got mine through the android market, i was asking because some people had issues with a few games they got through amazon instead of the market.

Ok after my battery draining ultra fast yesterday I made moved my email update to 1 hour,no wifi,No live wall paper ,and no update with my Weather app. My battery today after 10 hours use still shows 81% much much better it died this time yesterday do to low battery.

I'm having a very similar experience - I'm loving the phone except for the battery life - I average 5 - 6 hours on a full charge. The battery usage shows that 80+ percent of the usage is from the screen. However I really don't use the screen very much.

I do have a live wallpaper but no widget locker / lock-screen widges, just a few regular app widgets. Most of the actual time that I use the phone, I use it for audio (podcasts) with the display off.

I'm currently wondering if maybe display power management is broken?

To be totally upfront about this my prior phone was an iphone 2g, so I'm not 100% on what to expect in terms of battery life, but the information I've gleamed from reviews/forums leads me to believe that I really should see better battery life out of this device.

A somewhat-impractical band-aid to use until you permanently fix this problem would be to turn off cellular data when you don't need it. Just long press the power button and tap "Data network mode." It might help some.

I'm willing to give that a try, I'm on my last "full cycle" charge. So that leaves me at the next stage before trying to process a return.

I don't like turning off cell data because of MMS. I didn't get a chance to test today because we were storm chasing and I was using phone a lot. Seen 3 tornados and totaled our Avalanche when an idiot pulled out to do a u turn on a highway and we t boned him. Everyone is ok though. I was on phone when it happened and pretty sure it took a shot to the front windshield and it came out in perfect shape.

Fortunately my day was uneventful enough to take some notes.
Below is a detailed account of EVERYTHING that I did with my phone throughout the day. If it's not mentioned below, I didn't try it or do it. It seems that no matter what i do I lose 7-10% per hour when data is enabled. I've connected my phone to the wifi here @ the office (I avoid that because I like my phone to stay private). I will try another hour tomorrow morning and see if there's a difference there.

I've also had serious battery issues. I think there are two contributing factors.

1. Companion sync was always syncing. I just did one sync and my battery level dropped 4%. Tried another and it took out another 1% of the battery life. Screen was off most of the time in both cases. So this might be the culprit.
2. I had not conditioned the battery properly. Several people have posted that you should run the battery down all the way, charge it up all the way (using a wall charger) and repeat three times. I've done so twice. I was getting terrible life (6-7 hours) like you. Today, after my second full cycle I'm at 68% after 7.5 hours, over an hour working with my screen on the whole time and other general use.

However, I've been writing this for almost an hour, between calls and emails, and my battery has declined from 70% to 57%. It says the display is responsible for 89% of my use so far today (7hrs 50 mins).

I'll post again after more investigation.

I spoke with someone who knows a lot about cell networks - he says that a poor connection (I definitely have a poor connection at my office) can result in short battery life. If that's true then being connected to wifi should certainly have an impact.

Will find out tomorrow.

"woke up, got out of bed, dragged a comb across my head."

I can't be the only one who "got" this. Love it. ;)

But back on topic, for me, the screen eats up 80% or so of my battery. I can't change that, unless I run it pretty dim. I currently have it on auto-dim (or whatever the exact name is). My first battery life was just over 8 hours; next was 10 hours. Now, I am getting 14 hours or (w/ 80% attributable to the screen, which -- I guess -- indicates pretty heavy usage). While I wish I could get two full workdays out of the battery, I realize it's not realistic and am happy to get the 12-14 hours of BL with uninhibited/unrestrained use. Quick list of my measures:

-Disable BOTH WiFi and Auto-Sync when I leave the house (mainly to save on data, as I'm on the 200 MB plan. For now. :D )
-Do NOT use Live Wallpapers (I'm bummed about this, cuz I REALLY liked a couple of them).
-Do NOT use ATK (counterproductive)
-Run Juice Defender app (non-paid version).
-Screen timeout set to 30 seconds.
-That's all I can think of....

Hope this helps a bit!

Ya today I haven't used my phone that much and it was at 20% by 12:30 after taking off charger at 6. I then charged up to 65% and its back down to about 20% and that is with minimal usage.

Also I have heard that rooting phone shouldn't really affect anything, but I didn't notice any of my battery issues prior to rooting. All I have done with root is freeze tethering manager and download a screen shot app. Anyone else notice a change after rooting.

My screen shows 93% of my battery usage for today.

Thanks for the kudos on the beatles love :)

I really hope that you're wrong, reefrunway. I had to seriously cripple this phone in order to get even a marginal improvement. I'm not after having to charge once every other day, here. I'm perfectly happy keeping a charger @ my bedside, I'm even fine keeping one by my desk @ the office.

But what I won't be able to tolerate is having to worry about my phone going out on me if I stay out later than usual. This means that I need a minimum of 12 hours normal usage per charge. So far I've fought really hard to get 8.

The part that I don't understand is the > 80% usage being attributed to the display. I'd understand if I had been using the display, but if you read the post, you'll see that the display was in use for less than 10 minutes for any given hour. I also find it interesting that there was one hour where only 1% was lost. During this time, the phone was sitting still with no network activity at all.

I got home around 7pm and my battery was at roughly (from memory) 45% (I started charging again after my last post - battery was at around 75% when I left the office @ 4:15pm). As soon as I got home, I connected to my house's wifi. Widgets have been put back in their rightful place (still not using widget locker or anything like that) and automatic brightness has been re-enabled. I've restarted YouMail and logged back into notifo. Other than that, I've done a little with it during this time - listened to some podcasts, checked email, updated some apps, etc. It's currently 10:45pm and my phone is at 20% and the battery stats show that display is responsible for 45% of usage.

So all that leaves me tending to distrust the usage stats.

Right now I see 2 possibilities for what's eating my battery:
1) There's something seriously wrong with whatever controls the display's "sleep" mode, and the display stays on but black when the phone is idle.
2) Trying to keep a good connection to the HSPDA network is sucking up battery life, in which case I expect that staying connected via wifi would save hours worth of battery life.

Anybody with more knowledge on what kind of performance I should expect out of an android phone with a 1700mAh li-ion battery want to chime in?

I was at 92% when I got to work and stuck phone in locker while it was in flight mode. 3 hours later it was down to 73%. Last week at work it didn't do this. Rooting is really only change I made since then.

2.5 hours later of locker in flight mode down to 55% starting to delete programs to see if I can figure out. Will exchange if I can't figure out soon. I was happy with battery last week it is awful now.

Trying normal use (played some words with friends in the car, downloaded a few podcasts on both AT&T and wifi, listened to some podcasts) today. Except with wifi connected - disconnected this morning at ~6:00am. It is now 11:21am and I'm at 51%. I really don't like having to fight against a brand new phone.

It looks like it's going back on Saturday. Hopefully AT&T has a decent alternative.

I un-installed bloat freezer and screenshot it at lunch today and my fast battery drain has slowed way down. It only dropped like 3-4 % between lunch and when I left work. Where earlier in the day it was dropping at close to 10% an hour in standby while in flight mode. I'm gonna continue to keep an eye on it to see if the issue is really resolved or if it is just a temporary slow down. I still think it is very odd that my screen shows it used 95% of my battery when it was in standby all day. Anyone else that is having this issue using either of those two programs???

I am now at 39% battery life after 9 hours and 26 minutes wondering if the time I'm seeing is worth trying another unit or not? I have push exchange email enabled. I'm mostly OK with the battery life but it seems shorter than my old iPhone 4 (charged once every 1.5-2 days as opposed to every night). Thanks for the help.

If my calculation is correct, at your current rate of battery usage, you can expect a total battery life of a bit more than 15.5 hours. That is definitely above average for this phone. I am getting 12-14 hours and pretty happy with that. In comparison to the iPhone, this unit does have a substantially shorter battery life. Blame the beautiful screen. ;)

Thanks. I guess I got scared by some people's issues with the phone and the difference between it and the iPhone.
