Battery Drain while phone is off.

Charged the phone before I went to bed and turned it off. After 10 hours or so, turned it back on and the battery was at 90%. The other day, the battery was at 15%, turned it off before bed, and after another 10 hours or so when turning it back on, the battery was at 3%.

My Note II never drained battery (or drained so little it was negligible) when turned off. What's the deal? Anyone else experiencing this? How can this be fixed?

Note: This is *not* a 'battery draining when turned on' thread. My battery life has been pretty good when the phone's on (3 days last charge). this is *specifically* about the battery draining while the phone is *off*.

I get an odd thing happen with mine, when it's turned off and I charge it to 100% and then turn the phone on it then says I have only got 96-97% charge ?

I think this is just a matter of what goes into the percentage rating. It's not a exact science. The more charging cycles it goes through, the better estimated the percentages will be - at least as I understand it.

Yeah, but that still doesn't explain how the phone is at 100% charge, turned off, then unplugged, and 10 hours later, when turned on, its now at 90%. That's a HUGE difference considering it was turned completely off for those 10 hours. I'll keep track after more charges, but 100% when turned off should be close to 100% when turned back on in less than 12 hours. It's not like I left the phone sitting for weeks after a charge and expected it to be near 100%.

I would agree. Off is off, and you should not see any drain over only 12 hours. As far as finding a few percent less battery after a reboot, my Note 3 does that as well. If you plug it in after a reboot, it will quickly go from 97% to 100% and on the next reboot, not move back down just because of a reboot. But the process repeats after the next charge...

Try the same thing again but pull the battery or overnight too. If you get the same results then it's a calibration problem that will be corrected over time (few more charges).

I don't know the reasoning for turning off a phone at night. Why not just put it into ultra power saving mode at night once it's fully charged? Sometimes phones use a little life just booting and reloading the OS, but nothing close to 10%.

I do this everything night from day one with my note 4, putting it on USPM and I wake up to 100% every morning. The reason I started putting my phone on USPM is because I don't like leaving my phone plugged up changing all night long.

girls love tech too

I don't see any drain when my screen is off where other phones would drain even with it off. I'm getting 15-17 hrs of general use daily so far, one day could have made it into the next day with about 30% left. I keep mine on max brightness as well.

Would be really cool if it had timed profiles that you could setup to automatically put it in UPSM at a predetermined time!

I believe you could accomplish this with NFC smart tags and a tag programming program. Just leave the tag where you put your phone for the night and if you made it a switch, it could turn the battery saving off when you tapped the tag in the morning.
Good luck!

Ya, except that NFC is yet another huge battery drain...and it doesn't work in UPSM. There are a number of apps out there that you can use to change profiles and stop services, minimizing battery drain...but none that I can find to invoke UPSM.

Now who is telling what happens at home?

I had this happen to me @ one night where when I went to bed, I went from somewhere in the 90's % battery life to somewhere in the 60s%. And this is all overnight. When I checked to see wht was consuming battery, the "Android OS" was like 45% consumption. Rebooted my phone, and since then this has never happened!

Yes the best you should be after 10hrs of screen off time is 97-98% from 100%...I just think Android in general tends to drain battery faster than iphones. And I am talking this with Wifi/data off at night..Idk why it couldn't just remain on 100% or 99% ?

The post you're quoting is over 4 months old.

It looks like Bosboeur had some compulsive need to scour all of my posts because he didn't get a joke.

MY phone has yours "beat" by a long shot!

I can charge mine up to 100%.......turn it OFF......go to bed, wake up in the morning and the charge is down to 60 or even 50.

And it's NOT the battery...because I've done this test with TWO different batteries which I have then installed in my wife's S3.....turned off overnight.....wake up to 100% or 99% charge. So it's definitely something happening in my phone.........BUT, what the heck can it be???

I know your post is two years old........makes no difference to me......so (anyone else.....please don't mention it)........

I've got EXACTLY the same problem......and ONLY on MY phone, not my wife's S3.
We've tested both with several batteries.
Both phones turned OFF overnight........hers always wakes up with 98-100% charge. Mine always 60-70.

What could possibly be draining my battery 30 to 40% overnight?
Is there such a thing as a "short" that could drain a battery like this.....but NOT cause other drastic damage?
Baffling.

Please throw all your ideas at me. I'm at a "loss". (Literally and figuratively!!)

You're saying "screen off time".......notice HE said PHONE off time.

His problem is like mine. The battery is (somewhat astonishingly) discharging while the phone ISN'T EVEN TURNED ON.

Driving me crazy looking for solutions.
