Battery Drain while phone is off.

His problem is like mine. The battery is (somewhat astonishingly) discharging while the phone ISN'T EVEN TURNED ON.

By "off" (sorry, I just want to be really clear about the problem) - you mean long-pressing the power button and selecting "POWER OFF"?

If that is the case and you are still getting a 40% discharge overnight, then it's either a bad battery or you have a mechanical short circuit somewhere,

Since I believe you said in a previous post that you had tried it with multiple batteries, it's probably a mechanical fault in the phone. Probably repairable by replacing the charging board and/or motherboard, if you are so inclined. Or by pulling the battery overnight so it can't discharge.

-----

If by "off" you mean simply "screen off", go into "settings / battery" first thing in the morning and see what is using the battery, and post it here.

I know mine would discharge a lot overnight if that isn't when I usually charged it, but I live in an aluminum-sided house and my bedside is the furthest point in the house from my ZyXel cell signal repeater - so my wife's phone on the other side of the bed actually does better than mine overnight simply because she gets two more bars than I do, and doesn't keep losing signal and regaining it all night. I would see "Cell standby" and/or "Android System" and/or "Android OS" as significant battery draws, as well as anything that might have been trying to use data (when my WiFi was out for a few days, my corporate email and weather apps showed up on the list rather high up)

You're saying "screen off time".......notice HE said PHONE off time.

Driving me crazy looking for solutions.

I'm having this issue too, hoping to get a solution online. phone is 3 years old and not holding a charge after 100 percent and turned off. I have been turning it off at night and when i turn it back on the next day it's down to 75 percent...AT&T are no help, tried calling the protech because i have the insurance and all he did was guess. Basically told me i should get a new phone before they can't transfer my information.

You will find different devices behave differently. For instance, power down any (every? Many?) Samsung device and THEN unplug the power cord. It interprets that as a power change and powers back on. But if you unplug the device before you power it down, it stays dead.
Nexus5 seems to behave properly, it simply goes dead on command. Some other phones will have a dead battery in one month, despite being OFF. There is apparently a lot of poor curcuit design, like a thermal sensor that always creates a slight drain on the battery.
No need to consider malware, that poor battery sensing circuit is all it takes.
As to why someone wants to power down a phone, why not. Charging phones sometimes do catch fire while you're asleep. And some Samsungs are famous for going Bing! And lighting up at 2am to remind you they are fully charged to unplug them. Turning a phone off guarantees it won't bother you.

Charged the phone before I went to bed and turned it off. After 10 hours or so, turned it back on and the battery was at 90%. The other day, the battery was at 15%, turned it off before bed, and after another 10 hours or so when turning it back on, the battery was at 3%.

My Note II never drained battery (or drained so little it was negligible) when turned off. What's the deal? Anyone else experiencing this? How can this be fixed?

Note: This is *not* a 'battery draining when turned on' thread. My battery life has been pretty good when the phone's on (3 days last charge). this is *specifically* about the battery draining while the phone is *off*.

I have the same problem with my Android Nokia 6.1, which I noticed about a year ago, after an upgrade. As a physicist I think the answer is obvious - you can no longer turn off these devices physically. Long holding the button and tapping "power off" is just a software function, not a physical switch off. It is very likely that Apps are still running, including internet connections operating your microphone and camera, so watch out for big brother!
