Battery drain

When you restored what did you choose to restore?

apps+data
apps and all system data? which one?

ill help you get to the bottom of this. i dont have my phone on me but when i do ill help you figure out which app iis doing it.

I did "apps+data". Should I do just the "apps"? I'm at work now, so I'm not going to wipe then reinstall everything one by one until I get home.

id try doing "apps+data" but before you hit batch operations. check "apps only"
make sure data is not included.
then if theres an app you want to keep its data, like angry birds so you dont have to restart, restore that one by itself.
go to filters, type in angry at the top. then filter it.
angry birds should be left. click batch - restore apps + data and make sure all of the things on top are checked.
im at school right now so im just giving you the instructions quickly cuz im in a rush. but ill be home soon and when your home tonight ill get back on and help out

I did what what you said. Wiped cache and all data. Did a Titanium Backup restore with just the apps. I don't really care if I kept all the data from the apps. Didn't restore any of the settings as I can do them manually. And the results are...

More or less the same. According to Spare Parts, my phone is running 66.7% even though my screen has been on 28.8% of the time (running 15 minutes while the screen has been on for 6 minutes). I have no idea what to do next. I'm thinking of doing the system restore again and restoring everything manually without Titanium. It's such a pain in the ass. Would I have the same issues if I got the paid version of Titanium? Or is there a better program out there that doesn't have the same issues?

Before doing any more wiping, try to figure out what is running in the background. Are you syncing multiple e-mail accounts? Updating widgets (ie weather, news, etc) frequently? I have 2 e-mail accounts syncing all the time (yahoo and exchange push) plus weather updating every 30 minutes, and I typically have 2.5x - 3x run time as screen on.

Also, if you use the phone to call, you have screen off, but in use. You should also check running services (menu-settings-applications-running services) to see what is running.

Lastly, are you using overclock widget? Not sure why some others haven't seen this, but when I had overclock widget installed, the time without sleeping was high and battery sucked. I woud uninstall and use setcpu (though others like overclock widget and have no problem).

If all this doesn't help, I would start over with clean rom install. Wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache, re-install rom, then re-download apps manually from market. You can restore data only from titanium on any select apps that you need it.

At this moment, I don't have any email accounts synced because I'm starting from scratch. In the past, I had two synced and it didn't really affect anything. No updating widgets whatsoever. OK, hold that...I have Juice Defender, but that never affected anything in the past. It's supposed to help, right? My background is just black (I changed the wallpaper to black for the sake of saving battery life). I have checked out the Running Services and it's fairly clean. SetCPU is running, but I heard you're not supposed to touch that because it will change the settings (I have it set to 200 to 1000 and Conservative). Overclock came with the rom and I haven't really used it. It could be that running in the background and I never really noticed it. I think I'll get rid of it since I don't use it at all.

I'll try and see what getting rid of overclock will do. Thanks for the tips.

when you go into spare parts and go into battery history and then click on the top bar to choose partial wake usage, whats using the partial wake?

and check usage statistics and have it sort by usage time. check if its an app you never run.

thats what i was trying to figure out earlier btu i didnt have my phone. if you still have the problem after you restart your phone from scratch let me know if this works

You might want to check your cell standby time under menu-about phone-battery use-cell standby time-push cell standby. If you are showing any significant time without signal (3% or more I believe they call excessive) and you have good signal that might explain some of this as well. This is one ave that sprint is having me track with my phone as a possible culprit to my issue.

3% is actually VERY good for time without signal. If its over 30% then you should toggle your prl by turning airplane mode on and off.
Typically before you do this after rebooting the phone you'll be at like 50% after doing the toggle you'll see it go down slowly and will be around. 14-25% depending on your signal strength.

But I don't think this is your culprit in your battery death. Its more of a battery saving tip like killing the "drm protected content" process.

Checked out the partial wake and Kik seems to be the culprit. I didn?t use it at all today and it seems to be ?on? for 49 minutes. Even in the past, before root, I never had problems with drain or issues with kik even if it was running in the background. I turned it off now and the sleeping seems to be better, but we?ll see for the rest of the day. Could the rom have done something with the program? If I delete and reinstall, would it go away? It?s a shame because I do use it fairly often.

Cell standby is 20% and time without signal is 2%. I put the phone in airplane mode when I go underground and take the subway. Reception in the office sucks, but it never drained things so bad. Speaking of which, what is forced roam mode? Does that help with the battery? And how do you get into force roam

After further review, it looks like kik was the problem. Apparently, there was an update which is causing massive battery drainage issues. I did some research on it and many others are complaining too. I uninstalled the program and my batter life seems a lot better. Hope they fix it soon since I really like the program and it's a good way of connecting with people out of the US.

Anyways, I was wondering how to do a "force roam" and what that does. Does that also help with battery life?

Thanks!

Corinthians, glad to hear you figured out your issues.
I on the other hand have and have not. After being on the phone with both sprint advanced tech, samsung online tech and then on the phone with their advanced tech, and then a trip to my sprint store and a visit with the repair tech, we have all concluded its a defective phone and battery. Samsunsung says more than likely my phone but most certainly a bad battery citing something about a chip in the battery not reading something in my phone accurately or correctly!?!? And for me to send it in immediately for evaluation. And the sprint tech was able to immediately replicate my issues and with that he had to replace the phone by policy and send it to samsung for testing!?!? So that leaves me wondering what in the h*ll is up with it and why samsung wants it in their hands so badly. So still after all of this not only sprint advanced tech and sprint store tech did not know what android.iqd was and samsung flatly refused to tell me what it was and gave me a number to google to talk to them. But when I called the number it was just to their main switchboard and for technical support look online at their website, nothing specific about android at all. So ya, interesting.
