My HTC 2750 battery gets pretty hot from time to time (like 104 degrees) what causes this? I have also noticed my battery life has gone down a bit lately could the battery be going bad? Battery is about 5 months old.

You are probably going to have to give more info for someone to help you. Your issue is pretty broad that could be a result of numerous issues.

Well I just installed the New market .apk and No root screenshot and my battery time has gone way down. At 4 hours I'm at 60 percent with little to moderate use. I use to be able to go 10 hours easy on a charge.

Well I rebooted and uninstalled no root screenshot and recharged the battery and no luck. Looks like the battery is shot. I'm really not happy with a battery that lasted only 5 months. May try the sedio 3500.

I'm pretty sure if you call Verizon they will send you a new battery for free under the 1 year warranty. Then you can see if its even the battery but as others had said it could be numerous things causing this.

Just so you know.. 104 isn't too bad depending on the conditions.. temperature outside, if you were on the phone for a long period of time, anything that would push the cpu to constantly run, etc.. Now if its constantly getting hot for no reason then that's a different story.

120-127 F degrees is when the phones battery will overheat causing the phone to automatically shutdown to protect itself.

If you go to running applications.. is there anything that looks like it shouldn't be running? I say this because you mention a screenshot app. I was having the same problem with one always running in the background even when I wasn't using it.. my battery wasn't getting hot but it was running for no reason after rebooting my phone sometimes. I eventually decided to just freeze it until I need to use the app again which I don't use very often anyways.

Thanks for this info. I wondered what temp it would take for the phone to shutdown.

I check my temp and have seen it at 116F a number of times with no outward adverse effects. Admittedly, over time, heat is always the enemy of batteries. But it is a catch-22 situation. When your battery works it gets hotter. When it doesn't work it gets cooler. That's life. Choose your poison :)

As far as the OP's 104F - heck, that's only 5-6F over body temperature. That could happen by keeping it in your pocket and standing in the sun. :)

One thing I have noticed is that if you are using your battery for a heavy duty task (i.e. Mobile Hotspot, Nav, etc) it is usually better NOT to keep it plugged into the charger during that time. When I'm on my MHS, if I leave it plugged into the charger while I have the MHS radio on, it will get very warm (112+F), but if I don't leave it plugged in it only gets to maybe 100F. I now choose to not plug it in and just resign myself to charge again later. If the battery is plugged in and working hard at the same time it is charging, it does get very hot. Hot from charging combined with hot from working. Too much sometimes.

For anyone who needs a quick and dirty battery monitoring tool, there is an HTC widget included with the ThunderBolt. Just long press on screen | widgets | Get more HTC widgets (if you don't see the battery widget) and then use that HTC battery widget. It will show you the temp.

I'm assuming that if you know the battery temperature, you likely have a battery monitor app of some kind... what voltage is the battery discharging?

I am looking for the voltage, not the milliamp-hours (mAh) or the watt-hours (wh).

How would I check that? I did shut off data and GPS and that helped alot. At my work I get a really weak signal in most areas (steel building) so you think it is working OT trying to find a signal all the time?

It sounds like your battery may be heating up and running down too fast because you have one or more apps continually running in the background when they shouldn't be. You might try running the "Watchdog" app to see if it can identify the misbehaving app or apps. Those apps could then be cleared of data and force stopped to see it that fixes the problem. A battery pull for a few minutes might help as well. Good luck.
