Battery Idle

Hi there, I recently purchased a G6 and am loving it in almost every way. I am coming from a nexus 6P which was an awesome phone (with an awesome camera). I only upgraded early due to the dreaded random 15% shutdown issue affecting many 6Ps.

My question is about overnight battery. Last night I charged my phone and unplugged it at 100%, used it for a few minutes and went to sleep with it at 99. This morning when I went to use it, it was a t 72%. I have been having this issue since about day 4 or 5 with it. When I go into battery, battery idle is listed at the top. I am thinking I should not be using this much battery during sleep. Any ideas or anyone else having this issue?

I appreciate any ideas or help, thanks so much

Sharon

Must be an app.....I came from 6p (with same issue) and I lose 2-3 prevent overnight and have over 50 apps installed. Only takes 1 bad app. Use greenify perhaps and hibernate apps

Sounds like a rogue app?

Just did a restore and will only install a select few apps today and see how it is overnight and then do a few more tomorrow. Any chance of it being Nova launcher, it is one of the ones I would like to reinstall right away?

I doubt it's Nova causing you issues

Keep us updated on your results! Hopefully you can pinpoint the app culprit soon!

As an aside, I love the 6P! I'd use it now if I could. :)

Nova does add some battery drain, but not to the level when you lose a quarter overnight. In my experience, on a clean build my S7 drains 2-3% overnight, and about 4-5% with Nova.

Well, after doing a couple restores and slowly installing apps, I was getting frustrated. I was losing up to 20-30% at night (anywhere from 7-11 hrs). Last night I turned off wifi and woke up and my phone was at 99% after 8 hours. So as excited as I am to figure it out, I guess I am going to have to try to remember to turn wifi off at night, kind of annoying lol. Is this normal that having it on uses so much battery?

WiFi usually drains mine like that. I don't like it.

Hi

first time posting so bear with me. i am having the exact same problem.

Battery charged to full before bed and woke with with 80% less. Had no problem for the first week but later it starts draining. I have also done factory resets, or even reset as a new device, worked about few hours and it starts to drain again.

I also tried to let the battery die completely and do a full charge and it didn't work.

Worse time Phone Idle took 46% battery.

After playing around with the phone, i am going to point my finger to the background sync apps such as emails.

I dont know whether Phone Idle includes background sync, but something definitely running on background to drain my precious battery. I went to the account & sync to turn off most of the syncs, especially Google syncs, Sheets, Slides, ect. I also switched email sync to every 1 hour.

it is 1Pm and i am sitting at 30% battery. let see if the 30 will last before i am done work.(5pm)

sit tight....

Yes checked, up to date...i do remember there was some update when i first got the phone.

im in Canada as well by the way

Mine is also up to date. Today I got over 20 hours on battery when I hit 15% and got 4 1/2 screen time. Best yet for me. I had wifi off for 8 hours while I slept, but had wifi, Bluetooth and data on for the rest, along with GPS for location. I am hoping I can continue to keep this up with my battery! MuckrakerX, what setting exactly should I be checking for, my data connection?

That sounds great, try uninstalling or disabling Quick Memo

I had a phone that did this until I learned a few things. Can't remember if it was my Note 5 or iPhone 6+ (more that I think about it, it was the Note 5 because my i6+ was great on battery). I was worried this phone would do that with Wifi on at night while I sleep, but my G6 is just fine with Wifi on at night. I often forget to turn it off and only find out when I get to work and it's searching for a Wifi network. I might lose about 2 or 3%. I'd check notifications as well as sync. Maybe Google Location History (turn off) as well as Location (use Battery saving). Another thing I have setup under Notifications is Do Not Disturb. I have mine setup under Advanced and then Schedule. My phone does not notify me of anything between 12:30am to 6:30am on Weeknights. Just something to consider. One more thing, mine is setup to only sync my apps while plugged in and on Wifi.
