Battery isn't as bad as it seems

At first, my Thunderbolt was draining battery like CRAAZZZY (lasted only about 4 hours). However, after going through the sticky threads and adjusting my phone according to how I would use it, my battery got better than I thought it would (I'm convinced it was the screen brightness that did it)! Yesterday, I unplugged my phone from the charger at 7:30AM and I ended up plugging it back in at 9:00PM - it was sitting at 33% at the time. Today, I unplugged my phone from the charger at 7:30AM and I still have yet to plug it into the charger as it stands at 48% battery life - and it's 11:38PM at the moment; THAT'S 16 HOURS AS IT IS! And by the way, I wasn't letting my phone sit there like a vegetable; it was actually used somewhat often to check emails, browse youtube/internet, stream pandora, download apps, as well as other minor things. So, if I had to estimate how long my battery would last TOTAL, I would estimate the battery life to be around 25-30 hours (according to my settings of course). So, if you are still experiencing battery problems, I suggest you go read the sticky threads in the main HTC Thunderbolt forum - btw, thank you for making such a wonderful thread! After adjusting your phone to settings that you can manage with, give your device a day or two to adjust. I would also recommend you try bump charging your device; it added a couple hours on mine although after awhile of doing so, the charging process can get a little tiring. And for those of you who plan - or planned - to buy the Thunderbolt, the threads that you read throughout the AC forums about battery issues should not kill your desire to obtain this magnificent phone - after all, there is a 14 day return policy, not to mention the unlimited 4G data is "rumored" to be a temporary offer (but you didn't get that from me - I may be wrong). So, if anybody else has been receiving similar battery life, post your times below - I'd like to see others who have also conquered their battery shortage! Thanks for reading and have a great day!

I've been experiencing the same thing. First day or two, not so great. But once my phone settled in and I started bump charging and using juice defender, I've been thoroughly impressed with the Thunderbolt's battery life. Using the stock 1400 mah battery, I'm pulling full day of moderate use, on LTE, with about 20% or so to spare at the day's end. Today I used my Seidio 1600 mah and after 15 hours of solid use, I'm at 30%.

The Thunderbolt's stock battery seems to be strong for 1400 mah.

You know I'm gonna have to agree with you guys. When I first got the phone the battery was ok. After modifying all the sync and app settings and the bump charging, I have to say the battery its holding up well. I've been uploading 720p video about 6 clips of about 1-2 min each over wifi to facebook and the battery dropped about 6-7% and I was surfing the forum here and texting.

Don't have any numbers today cause I restarted my phone earlier but my uptime has been around 11-12 hrs, awake time about 3- 3 1/2 hrs. Average. Moderate usage with screen at 25%.

Any way I slice it, I love the thunderbolt.

I think the rumors fed some self fulfilling prophecies. Search for trouble and you shall find it. I just played around with it a lot and eventually did my homework. I can get through a day of moderate use with 40-50% easy. That includes playing games, texting, surfing, etc. Perhaps not to the degree of a "power user" but I certainly put more mileage on it than your mother would.

I have my own highly customized settings which which are just good ownership techniques for any android user. I didn't enlist the help of any 3rd party apps except for Juice Defender Beta. I use that popular system monitor app and the HTC battery widget to monitor my battery regularly. Also as per recontamination in another thread I picked up power control plus but that was just tonight. I run auto backlight most of the time and that's what eats the battery more than anything. I still sync accounts every hour/few hours, run google/standalone GPS all the time, and even treat myself to a live wallpaper. Also a few days ago I did the HTC battery calibration trick. Not the abbreviated version, the one that takes 10 hours. Huge jump in performance as well android setting itself up.

Honestly when I see complaints of battery life I see children in adult clothing.

Which one is this? I've seen probably 5 different calibration methods, thanks.

mine last over 23 hrs, but i guess i had used it lightly though. i also noticed my phone was not getting that warm to the touch feeling, i guess whatever was running had already stopped. i know yesterday it only held for 4 hours and now it's a bit different. however way you use but whenever the screen display it's going to eat up the battery.

I unplugged my phone at 10am today and had it quit at about 2 this morn. 16hrs of fairly decent use. That includes two ten minute calls, fair amount of texting, half hour of web browsing? bluetooth on the entire time and a little bit of n64. Seems decent, but I am using the 2750mAh battery. I really dont see how you can get 23hrs on a standard battery and actually use your phone. But if you can do it, congrats.

You get 24hrs by not using the phone. You need to charge your battery all the way up. Then uplug it and restart the phone. then in battery you can see uptime and awake time.

You can have the phone sit up for a week but awake time will not be more then 3-4hrs. Htc said you would get 6hrs of use.

Awake time is the time the phone is being used screen on

Uptime is just a counter from the last reboot.

If you dont restart your phone these numbers will not reset.

The calibration method I used was from a website claiming it was a response from HTC for helping with battery issues. charge for 8 hours, unplug, turn off, charge for one hour, unplug, turn on, wait 2 minutes, turn off, charge for one hour, turn on quick boot. Might I add that the last step doesn't seem to make a difference in terms of calibration. You an just turn on hit phone after that last charge cycle and do w,e.

+1 Jonathan,
I agree with you my Droid Eris was the same way really, but I eventually surpassed the moderate and turned heavy use. So I bought the 1750mAh battery and it lasted all day. So far my tbolt was getting better on batt life day by day. I had already ordered a hi-cap battery and case clip combo from seidio prior to release of the phone so im trying to season the 1600 now.
Most people wanted to down play the batt life, due to the 4G radio, big screen and mostly the "single core CPU" just to give the teg2 phones that much more worth.
I say dont put much stock into what most people have said and let the performance of the phone judge its self.

I get through a full day with pretty moderate to heavy use. I have zero complaints with this phone it's amazing.
