Forget about using a usb port to charge this phone. Not going to happen. This phone requires the charger to be able to put out more than 500mA - the max a usb port can source.
Also, forget about battery monitor widget. All that's good for is telling you what the phone is consuming that instant in time when the sample is taken. It won't tell you what's actually using anything.
Download something called spare parts, then use the battery history function/partial wakelock to see what's keeping your phone awake.
My 2? says you have an app keeping the phone from properly sleeping.
And finally, blowing out your connection port on the phone will do absolutely nothing unless you got enough lint in there to block the cable's terminals from making contacts with those of the phone's. In which case, the phone wouldn't be charging at all.
