Battery issues with Motorola Droid2

I suddenly started this weekend having issues with my Droid2 battery, I charge it up all night, and 3 hours later it only has 50%. Usage is 2 phone calls, 1 txt message and checking gmail 1 time. That takes it down to 50%. By 3:00 I will have the "plug in to charger" message. Before this weekend, my battery lasted a day and a half. I did download and start using Tweetdeck and changed my display to 100% brightness because I am outside and can't see the screen unless I do. Other than that, I am using the phone as I always have, this just started. Any thoughts. I keep my GPS and wireless turned off unless using it.

Display is the biggest reason why battery life dies. I have mine set to 30% and I can see it fine outside. Download a battery monitor widget. They can tell you what's been eating your battery.

Also, widgets that are constantly downloading data can eat your battery too. Stock widgets or FB widget; of course it also depends on how often they're set to refresh.

A lot of people swear by Juice Defender. It turns off your data connections when not in use, and only turns them on periodically to check for new e-mails, etc.

You might try this guys solution. It helped my phone out before I was rooted. After I rooted I used setcpu to underclock and seems like my battery lasts forever now. I also tried JuiceDefender on my D2, but it always gives me errors and seems to drain the battery more. Anyway thats my two cents hope this helps.

Well none of these ideas will probably fix whats wrong. Lemme take a crack at it.

Turning up the display will not kill it as quickly as mentioned. My D2 and my DX are both always at 100% brightness and my D2 lasts 14 hours without asking for charging.

Juice defender, although nice, is not necessary. Just look in your power settings and see whats using the most power (downloading an app that'll just USE more power to tell you whats using power is a self defeating cycle).

Probably whats killing your battery is tweet deck wanting to ping the network CONSTANTLY, but you probably have some signal problems where you are going during the day.

If thats not it?

Battery probably lost one of its cells (yes, these things happen, batteries DO go bad!). And you'll need to contact VZW for replacement

Well I have had my D2 for about a week and have short battery life. A couple of calls and my battery drops 15%. My settings are all at the lowest power consumption and I do not run widgets.

Do you think the battery needs a couple more cycles? I know Lion batteries don't really need it, but thought maybe it improved with a little more time.

Can setcpu only be run after rooting? I was thinking it would probably be great if I had an app to underclock my D2G from the 1.2 down to maybe 800Mhz or something while it's "idle". I will eventually root the phone -- if I keep it, because right now I'm only getting about 5hrs of battery life, and that's entirely unacceptable. Until then, I need to keep it in a "returnable" state (I have 28 more days to decide).

Lol my name is AJ as well. Yes you can only use setCPU after rooting. There is a new app on the market called z4 root which should allow you to root and unroot with one click. I used the one click method on xda's site. I have my droid 2 set to 200mhz when the screen is off and 1000mhz when the screen is on and that seems to save me a ton of battery life.

I know you can't "guarantee" anything, but if I were to use this "z4 root" to root-and-unroot...and I eventually had to return the phone, do you think there's any chance VZW could tell the phone had been root'ed at all?

Thanks again,
AJ (2) ;)

I'm pretty sure if all you do is root and unroot, and remove set CPU, verizon should not be able to tell. Just don't mess with the system files or crapware and you should be ok. You could always sbf back to stock but that's for a different thread.
