Battery level dives almost to zero intermittently, then (mostly) recovers

Nexus 7 (2013) battery has frequent episodes where it sounds an audible low battery alert. Looking at the battery usage chart, the battery level has dropped almost to zero. But then it recovers back to the previous level. Sometimes, if the 'battery low' period is a little longer, the tablet will turn off. I have replaced the battery, but this did not alter the behaviour. I suspect something wrong in the battery management circuitry. I don't mind disassembling and replacing parts, but at present I have no idea what component is likely to be at fault.

That looks like a dendrite (Lithium Battery Dendrite links). The battery has to be replaced. It's nothing you did (or can do about) as you'l see if you read some of the links.

Thanks, but I replaced the battery and still have the same problem.
