Battery life since update (January Security Patch)

Re: Battery life since update yesterday

Just to let you know here is how you clean the cache in recovery .This quote below is from a guide showing step by step

Is this something we should be doing periodically on a Nexus? My phone seems to be running normally with no battery drain since the latest update.

I do every once in a while but thats just me.I don't think its something needed to be done unless having an issue.
I do normally clean cache though after an OS update for example from LP to MM .I dont clean cache for security updates though

Thank you very much!!!

Now would this be the same as :

Easiest way is go to Settings > Storage and USB > and click on Cached Data. It will ask you if you want to clear/delete Cached Data, press OK.

The name of these options may be different depending on your Android version and skin, but if you get the gist, you can get to it without difficulty.

Nope not the same thing

Re: Battery life since update yesterday

Just wondering if Wiping the cache helped your phone? Can you provide us with an update? Thank you.

Hi, so far the results are the same. I've notice now that with Facebook and Facebook Messenger is keeping my phone awake. Even if I didn't use Messenger at all within a day, it is listed in my battery stats and sometimes the keep awake is like 2h30...or more. Now what I decided to install the Facebook and Messenger beta to see if the issue would still be there. I'm will report back in a couple of days.

Re: Battery life since update yesterday

That's interesting results. Hopefully the beta works out GL.

My battery life went down as well. I cleared cache too. It was going down pretty much 1% a minute it seemed.

I wound up returning my 6P today anyways.. Loved it but didn't necessarily need it since I have a V10 as well.

Battery life was amazing though prior to this last update.

Ditto. Wiped cache. Removed Facebook app all together. Battery life has gone downhill in a big way since the security patch. Very disappointing. I only had this phone for a couple of weeks before the patch and was completely amazed at how good the battery life was compared to every other phone I have ever had. Now it's in the average to below average camp.

Alright since I've installed the Facebook and Messenger beta in the last two days. I've received I think an update for both per day and also since I've installed the betas, the Keep awake has been fixed!!!

Once thing about beta is that you will get some glitches sometimes. For example, yesterday with the Facebook beta update, I could not go into comments and view those if they weren't comments to me. But an update came out last night and that got fixed.

How do you get these betas? I'm losing my mind with the wildly erratic battery behavior I'm seeing.

For facebook beta program : https://www.facebook.com/notes/face...droid-beta-testing-program/10151529228878920/

Read at the bottom and they give you the links to enter the program.

Facebook Messenger beta program : https://code.facebook.com/posts/361...k-messenger-for-android-beta-testing-program/

Same procedures.

Just to let you know, I did use Messenger just a little bit today but it doesn't show up at all in my battery stats.

Facebook I've used it a lot and even uploaded pictures via cell reception and the Keep Awake time is only 7min. Before it would of been like 3h...

Re: Battery life since update yesterday

Consider uninstalling Facebook and Messenger and using Metal instead. It's a shell for the browser version of Facebook that operates a lot like the actual app with almost none of the overhead of the Facebook app. Give it a try.

I was never sure if Facebook was causing a drain or other issues but I found Metal and now I'm positive it's not causing problems because it's not on my phone.

Never heard of this. Might give a shot. Thanks for sharing! Cheers!!

I managed to Google up both programs and joined the groups, but I can't find where I'm to agree to be a beta tester in the Play store and start getting on that track.

I'm not sure if Facebook/Messenger are the culprits. GSam reports Google Services #1 in drainage with Google App frequently #2 and I've got all the usual hotword detection turned off, etc.

Last night I cleared the cache in recovery and overnight with Bluetooth on it was burning 1%. Get to work with weak cell signal, but building-wide wifi I've bled 40% in 6 hours with 45m SOT, just under 6% per hour.

I'm so disappointed in how Doze doesn't seem to work and how inferior to my OnePlus One the 6P has been in the battery department. Google simply can't get this right, can they? I don't want to have to root and mess with alternate kernels like I did with success back with my Nexus 4.

Hi well once you have sign up, it should say on the bottom of the page that you are now a tester, after you will get an update in the Google store.

Battery life has been terrible since the patch and I constantly get stuck on 3G too.... Have to put my phone into airplane mode and out to get it back on LTE. This is really terrible considering I loved this phone.... And was getting the best battery life of any android I've ever had. Google's update had ruined this device.

I've downloaded the January security updates. I use the Facebook app several times a day. Very rarely do I use Facebook Messenger; only when someone actually sends a message that way, which happens once or twice a month. No noticeable difference in battery life.
