I wonder what I am doing wrong, I am only getting about 10 hours. I guess the usage is higher than "normal" since the phone is new and I am constantly playing with it. But I wouldn't describe it as "heavy" use, so I am a bit disappointed with the battery life.

I just ordered some extra micro-USB chargers for $5 from Amazon to keep at the office and in the living room, so I can plug it in if needed. The good news is that it charges really quick.

Once the extra batteries come out, I am definitely picking one up.

_______
Today I unplugged it around 8am and by 7pm it was down to 15%. I was not using it a ton today, but I do have Remember the Milk app running (which I have heard uses a bit of battery power) and had the sports scores app updating every five minutes during NFL games.

Good lord that's amazing! Do you have any apps running? What settings are you using for things that take power, like GPS, data sync, WIFI, etc.

Both nights since I bought the phone I've had to plug it in before dinner. I wouldn't consider my use to be heavy either...

What about screensettings? I am only getting about 10 to 11 hours myself and with little to moderate use. When I look t the summary with battery useage it says the screen has been taking over 70%. I still have the screen at the factory settings with auto screen adjustment running. Any ideas?

wow, im on wifi with no phone service (so i guess its taking a lot of power to look for it) but mine was at 15% from 8:30am to 2pm heavy usage. this is very hard compared to my blackberry which would last a weekend with medium-heavy usage

That's insane!

Would you mind posting your settings?

The longest I've used mine without charging so far was 12 hours and I was at about 10% when I got home with a (Charge phone) message, I had mild activity throughout the day, I think twitter refreshing every five minutes was what killed it, other than that I had minimal use throughout the day (3 phone calls that were about 5-10 minutes each, a few texts and some facebooking)

Settings are

Screen on brightest (I've switched it to lowest as it doesn't make much of a difference indoors)

Screen timeout 1 minute (Switched to 15 seconds)

wifi off

not really sure what else might effect battery life

Apps:
hi aim
hi msn
twiroid
facebook
sms popup

With my settings on what's listed, I was at 70% after 10 hours

Let me know if there's anything else I can do to preserve battery life, I have the power saver widget out and I'm using minimal settings on it. Comments in ( ) are what I switched the settings to after my battery being drained after 12 hours.

Here's a link to a PC World article that may be instructive:

Droid Battery Life Requires New Charging Habits - Business Center - PC World

Essentially, it reminds us that all those pixels, services and signals burn up a lot of electrons, so the best practice is to keep the phone on a charger when it's possible. Until someone comes up with one of those magical movie cell phone batteries that never dies, you have to charge it when possible.

Hi all... I am new to this place and just got my Droid on Saturday

I used Greenfinder Golf GPS on Sunday and got 7 hours of heavy use out of it
I downloaded Advanced Taskkiller and will experiment more this week as I am traveling and plan to use it heavily in NYC.

I am loving the navigation

Guys, its the screen, I was getting simular poor results until I lowered the screen or put it back to auto screen bright. Yes, in a dark room it will be at the lowest brightness but with moderate use and off the charger at 6am and it now being 6pm, I still have 65% battery and the only thing I changed was the brightness. Also, I checked the battery use and its now only 32% for the screen when yesterday when I had the brightness set to 45-50% default, it would say 70% use of battery from screen.

Hey RichR, I am a bit confused by your post.

Are you saying that you got better performance by setting the screen to auto screen bright or by setting it to the lowest possible brightness all day?

I may start experimenting with different settings to see what works best. I am inside all day, so the screen brightness is really not an issue.
