Battery Life

So this is my first full 'normal' day on the g4...

This is 30 mins listening to music to and from work, a couple of emails, light Facebook and Twitter, one 1 minute video, couple of photos and a bit of Web browsing.

My question really is does the battery improve over time with some charges? I was spoilt on battery life with the z3, but I'm hearing people on here quoting 20hrs plus with 3-4 hours sot, and im only just over 2.

What do, or did, your battery usage stats say for that period? Anything unusual?

Batteries don't magically get better...its the user usually knowing what to tweak or turn off to maximize. Good luck.

Nothing that stood out, no.

I have to say that the drop in % when using the phone with screen on its quote dramatic. Browsing the Web for 10 mins would take 5-8%. That's how I don't get the 3, 4 or even 5hr SoT stats from elsewhere.

I never claimed I was looking for magic.

In your position, I think I'd try a Reset.

An update on my post.

I was running Nova Launcher on the G4 when I had the not-so-great battery life in my initial post.

Last night I decided to try the stock launcher instead. I noticed that there were quite a few apps that I usually delete on a new phone that were still showing on the stock launcher, but not on Nova - Evernote was one, and a couple of O2 apps also. I'm not sure if this is normal? I restored Nova from a back-up, so the apps I didn't want wouldn't appear on my home pages, but they weren't in my app. drawer either...

I deleted these, set up the stock launcher to my liking, and deleted Nova. Today, thus far, I'm at 88% after 4hrs 10mins, which is far better than yesterday, and actually every bit as good as I was getting on the Sony Z3. I also noticed that the overcharge that you get on the G4/G3 (where you seem to stay on 100% far longer than you normally would before it drops to 99%, 98% etc.) lasted for 90 mins whereas yesterday it was only 10 or 15mins.

I'm not at all laying the blame at the specific apps, or indeed Nova, but thought it was interesting anyhow. Possibly the battery just needs a few charges to set itself also. My usage today is almost identical to yesterday, as it's a work day, so I've unplugged, listened to music on my commute and checked a bit of social networking.

Long may it continue...

I don't usually judge a battery until a few battery cycles.
One thing is that it takes a little time to check out your new phone and get it all setup to your personal taste.
As far as sot mine's been around the 4 hr mark as an average. That works for me,I can make it though a day without charging, with battery juice to spare .
(5 am-11 pm).

PS I don't have a desk job. :)

I do have a desk job :( , but I'm loathe to plug my phone in. Old fashioned, but I like to unplug at 7.30am, and i want my battery to last...

Currently at 77%, 6hr 2mins, 1hr 9mins SoT, so on a par with you it seems.

Not quite an accurate statement. While no, it's not magical, there is a software "learning" (for better lack of a word) that is required to get the most out of your battery. Batteries do get better after the initial FDR/Major Update/New Installation because the software needs time to establish good battery stat numbers. So, yes, your battery life could increase after an FDR/Major Update/New Installation. Most users will wait a week or so before complaining about battery life because of the learning factor required by the Android OS. If the battery life isn't better after a week or two of use, then yes, there could be a problem. So, no, software isn't so much magical as it is logical.

Precisely, but my reply to this was as short and unsweet as the initial comment.

Also not quite an accurate statement.
"Batteries" do not get better over a little time of use. They "appear" to get better because the SW/FW takes some time to determine the approximate state of charge.
The battery life (get the most out of it) does not change after a few cycles or whatever, the SW/FW in the charging circuit(s) of the phone get better at reporting the State of Charge for the battery, so it "appears" that the battery is lasting longer.
Simply when a new battery is in use, the SW/FW in the phone doesn't know what it's capacity really is and it takes some time for it to figure that out.
It's actually very hard to determine a really accurate state of charge for lithium batteries.
Your intention is 100% correct, just a little wording IMHO. :)

Not getting any better battery than my S6E. That's the reason I wanted to try this phone. Think it's going back. Still like the Samsung camera a little more also.

Ok, just an update...

Plugged in last night after 15 1/2 hours on battery with 33% left, and that was with a sharp 5% drop towards the end as I caught up with e-mails from which I DL'd quite a few attachments/pictures.

It's still early days, but I'm still very surprised by the difference between the first couple of days and the last. Today I'm 5hrs off the charger with 87% left...
