Battery life?

Hi. I'm considering jumping on the best buy deal for $372 for the s8. Just concerned about the battery life. Coming from the s7 edge which had an absolutely terrible battery life to the LG G6 was amazing. Will I at least get the same battery life as the G6 or will it be closer to the barely unpluggable s7 edge?

It's a good question. I've had my Galaxy S8 the smaller one since it came out and my battery last about 15 to 20 hours per charge. I streamlined all the apps meaning I de bloated the entire operating system and I turn the screen resolution down to just a regular HD. Most people can't tell the difference regardless unless you are in performance mode or are you are serious gamer anyways. With that being said though, my Galaxy S8 runs perfectly fine I have no complaints whatsoever about it. I will admit though that I finally did disable TouchWiz and use Nova Launcher so I run a custom pixel set up. But even when I use Touch was it ran smoothly. Hopefully this helps you out. Good luck to you.

I don't know about the S8, but my S8+ gets the best battery life I've ever had. I regularly get 6 hours of SOT. I am surprised of your opinion of the S7 edge, however. That was second best battery life. Sounds like it had a rogue app or something draining the battery. Did you ever try a hard reset?

Like I said, on my smaller S8 with those system settings changed I get 5 hours of screen on time easily i.. Which means I can basically use my phone with Google Maps without a charger most of the time.

You will get varying opinions on every phone out there. It depends on signal strength and the inconsistencies of Android. Most report good battery life but there are always vocal outliers. I have found good battery life at first but it gets progressively worse, but I will also have a random great day. Sometimes doing a hard reset will restore it but restoring everything is a real pain.

thanks for the replies. my lg g6 gets about 4hrs screen time with 20% remaining. it does tend to get worse over time. at first it's screen time that's the top battery drain but now it's more phone idle. not sure what's that about.

Battery time totally depends on you and you use your phone. I'm a pretty heavy user and my S8+ is better than anything I've ever used. The S8 does have a smaller battery than the plus so that's something to consider if you are going for battery life.

I get about 20 hours on a charge on my regular S8.

SOT means nothing to me, as I see a different number every time I look at it. Plus, I have AOD on anyway, so I don't know how that affects that time. Even so, a lot of times, the phone is face down or in my pocket, so the screen turns off in those instances.

Still, I plug in at night, and unplug by morning. I get through the whole day with time to spare.

The US S7 Edge with the SD820 had an inferior battery life when compared to the Exynos variant. I was using it with Cricket Wireless and easily got 4-5 hours SOT with heavy usage, if used conservatively then 6+. I briefly owned the US unlocked S8 for a few weeks and with similar usage, it lasted me 3-4 hours of SOT, lower than my Exynos S7E. So now I'm using the US unlocked S8+ and consistently get 5+ hours of SOT with heavy use. Since the Oreo beta, battery life has reduced to 3.5 to 4.5 hours of SOT but I'm sure it'll improve once more software fixes are released until the stable release.

S8+ here.
I leave for work at 6am and go to bed at 11pm.
Never charge battery during day.
Never charge battery to 100%, always charge from 85-90%.
At 11pm battery usually has 45-60% depending on usage.
Never ran battery all the way down.

Take care of your battery and you will get good battery life.
