Battery percentage discrepancy

Hi, I just noticed something quite odd with my device. Well it's actually happened twice this month. But both instances I let it get below 10%, and down to 5% the first time. But the weird thing is, upon placing my quick charger in, it instantaneously shot up to 10% from 5% and went from 8% to 14% the other time. I checked my battery usage graph to see if it reflected this, and it did. What is a possible causes of this? Do I need to recalibrate my battery?

The percentage isn't an actual measurement of mAh left in the battery, it's a reflection of a chemical test that approximates it and the device software translates that results, coupled with data about the phone usage into a report of estimated battery level.

No, not necessarily. If you're seeing it make bigger jumps I'd be concerned about the health of the battery or connected circuits, but if you're saying it's very rare for the battery to be that low and it has a little issue figuring out what's going on exactly... that's pretty normal. It seems to be making an educated guess with very little data about that state of being on your particular usage.

If you see some functional difference in battery performance, yes, you should be worried. If it doesn't do anything other than report a weird value now and then, I wouldn't worry... keep an eye on it, but don't worry.

That percentage is just a mapped value.. it's not like there's a 0-100 counter on the battery that is read, it's just a calculated value.
