Question Samsung Galaxy S 22 Ultra Battery dies at %5

I bought a Samsung Galaxy S 22 Ultra from Amazon Renewed that was listed as Refurbished Excellent and when it gets to %5 it will last less than 5 minutes. Is this a sign of a worn out battery that may start to have shorter and shorter run time? It seems to long run time before %5 and will last longer than my Galaxy Note 9 I got on E-bay 5 years ago but even it will last much longer than 5 minutes once it gets to %5 or less.

On the Galaxy S 22 Ultra the battery information page says a full charge will last about 15 hours. On my A15 5G which I got new from Spectrum Wireless says it will last about 2 days 2 hours.

Why the big difference ?

Both phones list the battery as a 5000mAh battery.

The Galaxy S 22 Ultra is in excellent cosmetic shape, the screen has maybe very minor un noticeable scratches on the screen just 2 to be exact, no hint of even minor screen burn in and no dead pixels, even the back is in great cosmetic shape, the only possible issue is the area around the charging port is a bit scratched but the port it's self seems fine and is not loose and if I wiggle the cord it does not cause phone to stop charging so there appears to be no excessive wear to the phone.

5% without power save mode will die fast it's done that all my Samsungs over the years.

As for the battery lasting longer so many things at play here

A15 is 1 or more year newer
S23u is refurbished
The s22u has a better screen that will draw more power and bigger

Both are just set-up new give it 2 weeks to learn usage and settle in then test both at the same usage like both have a sim card in it or one is always on Wi-Fi would not be a fair comparison as not using the same way ..things to consider and test

When you plug the phone in, does it still say 5%?

The phone might be saving more battery harm by turning off at 5, but it's been a long time since I had a Samsung that I don't know if that is true or not.
When I plug it in it starts charging and the percentage increases and it says it will be fully charged in just over an hour, I also just noticed that at %15 it starts to decrease more quickly than when the level is about %15.
I also just happened to stumble across discussions on Samsung's Forums of people having the same issue with their Galaxy S 22 Ultras. One user said this
"Seems the snapdragon chips have less issues compared to exynos. Very irritating"
My S 22 Ultra has the Snap Dragon CPU according to AIDA64 and Geekbench64

yes!! how long do you feel the battery should last on a 3-year-old phone @5%??

This is the results I got after 2 charge cycles with Accubattery installed compared to my Galaxy S 9 which I had since Feb 2022 that was used and it will last longer than 5 minutes once it gets to %5.

Since you got it as Amazon Renewed, you have no idea how the previous owner treated the battery. If they used it pretty hard, it's probably more degraded than your old phones (which is evidenced by the lower battery health on AccuBattery). Remember, renewed/refurbished doesn't mean they could do anything to restore the battery to a pristine state.

If it dies at 5% its out of calibration.
It's normal for it to nose-dive at 5% even 15%, it's when the battery is at its least energy dense state. In your case since it thinks it's dead at 5%, you're at the very least 5% battery degradation.

I don't even know what the process is anymore. There used to be dialer codes but they don't work anymore, at least not Android 16.

This could come down to a simple answer of changing charging habits. I rarely let my phone get below 40%. As for full charges, they do happen, but usually because I plug it in while working and forget to unplug.
40 is a bit excessive but isn't wrong either. 20-25 (15 at the lowest) to 80 is last I looked where battery cycles are lowest. Ironically Samsung is using the same batteries today as probably 4 or 5 years ago when I read it. Main reason is slightly longer sustained temp from charging it better than multiple thermal cycles depending how charged it is.

Going to go OT, @Golfdriver97 , why don't you just turn the limiter on or does your phone (not sure what you have) not have one?

Back ON-T, agreed, better battery practices will need to be observed by the OP. Also OP, don't replace the battery yourself. Chances of getting a genuine battery are low and breaking the phone high.

Unless you got some incredibly good deal, I would honestly return it.
As B. Diddy said, you have no idea how it's been treated for the past 3+ years. Someone could have been killing the battery to 0 every day and charging it to 100% overnight.

I have a Pixel 9a. As far as I was aware, there wasn't a limiter? I just tried looking again, and still couldn't find one. I have an alarm from AccuBattery, but sometimes I miss it or it doesn't go off.

Point taken about the 40 being a bit extreme.

Not criticizing just for a anyone looking to change up their habits, that might be a bit strict for people to stick to (like going hard day 1 on a diet), set up for failure.

As for not being there, that's disappointing. (Sarcasm incoming, I'm sure Google will implement this Samsung-bloat in 2 or 3 years).

More serious, there used to be dedicated root apps which seem to have stopped working on modern Android but this magisk module apparently works despite being from 2022. Someone posted a few days ago about it working on the 6 Pro, don't see why it wouldn't work on the 6a.
I'm not rooter anymore so I can't confirm if this still works but XDA Thread. I guess read backwards, only 4 pages so not too bad.

I'm not a rooter either. I don't see much of a gain from it anymore.

This is pretty ghetto solution I just thought of and just woke up so blame sleepy brain if this is done.

Time how long 40-80 (or usual numbers), get a smart outlet plug or old manual turn outlet timer.

A bit over the top but at least no more accidental overcharge
