Battery percentage increasing without charging

I have realized multiple times now that my battery actually goes up couple percentages without charging or plugging the phone into anything. It happens mostly when the phone is in battery saving mode, but I'm pretty sure I saw it happen without it as well.

I was able to see the slight increase in the battery app as well, which at least assured me that I'm not going crazy.

Is this something normal either for this phone or any phone for that matter? Have anyone else seen this behavior?

I'm guessing temperature related. Lead acid batteries can do that with changes in temp. You can see a slow rise in charge (voltage) as the temp decreases.

Yes, I've experienced such things myself. I've always assumed it that it's harmless.

I think the temp is an indicator, but not necessarily related. That screen shot looks like the OP is coming off a heavy usage, like after playing a game. There's a temp spike along with dramatic battery drain.

I'm thinking it might be voltage sagging with the heavy use, then recovering some as it rests. This is a symptom that can show up with older batteries that are starting to have trouble supplying power due to higher internal resistance of the battery. In laymens terms, as batteries age, they have to work harder to apply the same power as new ones. The older the battery and the deeper the discharge (like in the above screen shots), the more this will show up. It seems kind of early for this kind of pattern to show up since the G4 just came out this year, but I wouldn't rule it out depending on how aggressive the battery has been used. If it's been that deeply discharged several times a day, that's where I'd look. Lithium based rechargeable batteries don't like being discharged that far and will age them prematurely.

Toss in a new battery, cycle it a few times to break it in, then see if this still happens.

I have this happen all the time, actually. The thing is, I use a 6200 mah Mugen battery, so for me I just assume it has something to do with the extend battery not being well calibrated to the phone. But yeah, I'll see instances when I'm using the phone and I get it down to (say) 56%. Then I put it in my pocket and turn on again 30 minutes later and it'll be at 60%.
