Just bought yesterday a new Nexus 4. The store technician opened it and ported all my info from old phone. When he opened it battery level was 12%. He plugged it to the wall. After he finished he told me to charge it for at least 8 hours. I took it home and charged it from 6% to 100%, but all the I played around with, installed app etc... Today I used it for a while battery meter showed 65%. Suddenly it shut down, I plugged it to the AC battery meter showed 0%. It now charging while shut down I will leave it for few hours.

Did I harm the battery by mishandling it? Will my phone have a weaker battery because of that?

Welcome to AC.☺

In normal use, it is best not to allow the battery to discharge lower than about 40% before recharging it. Having discharged it to 6% on this one occasion will not have done any damage, to the best of my understanding. However it does sound as if your battery may be faulty....it is possible for even new batteries to be faulty....so I think you ought to be prepared to return it.

My technician told me to empty the battery once more and then fully recharge it, In order to calibrate the battery meter.
Is that right?
