I don't have a Thunderbolt yet. But seeing how Samsung doesn't update their Verizon handsets, I've been contemplating a Thunderbolt. My question is, I live in a 3g area and it probably will be until 2012 or 2013. What kind of battery life should one except living in a 3g only area? Will the phone last at least a 12 hour day?

Really, it depends on what you do with it. It'll be close, but should last if you're conscience of conserving your battery. On the other had, having a second battery handy is not a bad thing either.

Mostly while I'm at work, working a 12 hour day. It would be in my pocket. Usually, I would have it set to fetch email every hour and do Facebook updates every hour. As far as actually using it, maybe 45 minutes during the whole 12 hours. I just don't know how fast the phone drains when it is idling.

With that type of usage I'd guess up to 15-16 hours.

I have the Thunderbolt in a 3G area, and I use it quite a bit throughout the day. If I'm smart about it, I can make it last all day. On the wifi, it uses less battery for me because it doesn't have to search for service every time it wants to do something. I'm still going to get an extra battery tho, just because then I don't have to think about the battery.

I'm in the same boat as you for coverage. I usually get at least 12 hours unless i am HEAVILY using the phone. It also depends on your 3g coverage. I have my email (2 accounts) set for 1 hour and gmail set to push. I only have my fb set to update daily because if i have time to check throughout the day, i just open the app. I have my weather/clock widget to update every hour. Twitter and mint widgets also and i don't remember how frequently they sync but they are at the default. I usually spend my lunch hour using it heavily and check AC forums a few times a day. I text throughout the day and a few emails. Generally at around 30% or more at end of day.

Edit: I does take at least a week to get your battery up to a good level to be able to use it all day, so if you can, have a charger available during that time.
